Today we released the latest video module release video 6.x-4.1-rc6 and we added number of new features to the video module.

First we added several new features to the FFMPEG conversion, now video module is allow your to convert video for progressive download and we changed the module to use latest FFMPEG with fallback to older versions.

Biggest feature we added in to this release is improved Zencoder support, we re-structured the Factory class we used to handle transcoders, and finally we could have great solution with supporting all type of transcoders. Now Zencoder videos also process same like locally FFMPEG installed ones very smooth and fast.

Its workflow same like local video conversion we had earlier too, videos will unpublish until it transcode properly and once transcode is completed then Zencoder servers will postback conversion job details to us, so now transcoding is very very fast with Zencoder.

We had thumbnails support for video from ages and now improved it also for Zencoder, now you do not want to update/edit the node to create new thumbnails. Thumbanils will generate automatically when video conversion is completed.

Get your hand dirty with video module is easy, you can extend transcoder class to support any other transcoding service and you can extend file system to any other CDN too.

#Click here to upload video and test using Zencoder.
Allowed Extensions: mov mp4 3gp 3g2 mpg mpeg divx rm flv f4v dir dcr asf wmv avi mpg mpeg ogg ogv

Enjoy with best video solutions as always do with the video module.

Large Videos?

Heshan,

Great work with this module. I've been playing with it for a few days now and am pretty surprised/impressed with it's functionality. I was also very pleased to see documentation and configuration instructions on your site :)

One "issue" that I have been putting off tackling is finding a work around for uploading large videos. ("Large" for my purposes is 50-200MB)

In my experience, videos can get pretty big really fast. So, I'm running into two barriers:
1) I timeout before I can finish most uploads (my upload bandwidth is pretty poor)
2) Even if I didn't timeout, I'd hit my PHP max_filesize before being able to upload most videos.

I know I could adjust PHP ini settings to increase timeouts and allowed filesizes.... but, this isn't really a long-term scalable solution, and it's actually not even possible w/ my current host. (admittedly, I only pay $9.99/year so I can't expect much... )

There seem to be a whole slew of potential helper modules out there. This wiki page, and it's comments outline most:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/20291

Modules such as http://drupal.org/project/swfupload and http://drupal.org/project/media_mover (with FTP) seem like decent choices.

But before I start down the rabbit hole of installing and testing module after module, does anyone out there have any suggestions or success stories related to large uploads with the video module? Do we have any existing knowledge of what is compatible and what isn't?

Thanks...

We already have videoFTP

We already have videoFTP which actually to import files from FTP, any one can upload files to /videos folder via FTP then using videFTP field you can import it as a video node. I think in my documentation its not much highlighted. If you need to convert large files try using Zencoder with S3 its fast and having high throughput as always have.

Hope this info might help.

Sounds good

Thanks, I'm not sure how I didn't see that there in the module list. And, yeah, I'm already using both Amazon S3 & Zencoder - neat stuff. This should do the trick - I'll install it and give it a try.

I'm currently working on a small project for my family - I can personally control all uploads, so FTP will work fine. But, I have been considering other potential use cases as well, specifically ones where end users would be doing the uploading. In that case, an FTP solution for large uploads wouldn't really work. Have you had any success with large HTTP uploads using any of the various flash/js approaches?

Thanks again, VideoFTP should do the trick nicely for my current scenario!

I have never try to upload

I have never tried to upload very large file, I know in practically its a pain. You can upload limited file using FTP but if you have very large file you better use good streaming like RTMP too, that will work I guess.

We are working for new feature, which will allow users to convert files directly from S3, it means if you already have a file in S3 then you can create a transcode job. Users can push large files directly to S3 and then let them convert and play in web compatible formats. So this feature would be useful in your case also.

Hope you like new features added to the Zencoder like thumbnails creations and fast transcoding.

Video FTP

Where do you FTP the videos to? I put them in the tmp folder as a guess?? But there are no videos listed in the drop down menu -- which is what I'm guessing is where the ftp'd media would be? As you said there is not allot of documentation highlighting the VideoFTP so any info would be great.
Thanks

We will update the doc very
