I have a client who wants to enhance the ways their visitors can browse sermons on the website. The one that currently has me most stymied is replicating what you see here: http://www.keepbelieving.com/scriptures/
Basically, he wants a tab that lists all the books of the bible, when you click on one you get all the chapters in that book. When you click on the chapter, you get all sermons that have to do with that chapter.
I'm trying to figure out how to present this as a view or taxonomy. Currently I have the entire sermon passage as a text field so that'll almost certainly have to change.
Have you done anything like this? Have any ideas or cautions? Thanks!

http://drupal.org/project/bible_field - Haven't work with this personal just heard it talked about. However I feel like you'd probably benefit from using this module instead of core taxonomy for marking the talks. This means if you later want to search for anything in Matthew between chapter 3 vs 2 and chapter 8 vs 4 you could. (Would be useful for people preparing sermons later/ writing up bible study programs).
You could then probably build a view out of it like you suggested using views arguments.
http://drupal.org/project/faceted_search -> This might help as well
Just FYI, I'm hoping to build a "sermon library" kind of module (probably a feature using features and views modules) and the direction I'd like to go for in http://www.desiringgod.org/. We tried to do it about a month ago but the breadcrumbs were the hardest part. (With desiring God you can get to the same content through either filtering by verse or by filtering through topics).
However for what you're trying to achieve you could probably just do it through taxonomy, (Like a really simple OOB method would be to make a taxonomy field called "Book" another for "chapter" and another for verse. You could then make a some views arguments that filter by that taxonomy. The advantage of this, is it would be simple. The disadvantage is that you could only filter by decrete values (Like everything in chapter 1) as the system won't understand how bible verses work. You couldn't filter by selecting say all sermons with matthew John 3:1-16. )
Thanks, that bible_field
Thanks, that bible_field sounds very interesting. I should keep a closer eye on the new modules coming out. :-)

These are the sermon libraries I'd like to model what we're doing things on.
Have you tried?
Is that all the client wants is to list them by Books and Chapters? Create the Taxonomy “Books of the Bible”, make sure the Taxonomy can only use your sermon content type and use select multiple and free tagging. With the free tagging, you can create these terms on the fly within the post, as long as you predetermine what you want to have you can have views filter out by books, chapters, and then sermons. Have you tried this method?
