I am trying to implement a slideshow for the front page of a website.
I spent a few days trying to work with various versions of views slideshow ddblock, which turned into a cluster better forgotten.
My hope is to create a block around 650px wide by 330px high.
The object has 5 parts:
- background image
- destination to send to if clicked
- citation of where the image came from
- Header
- text block
Ideally I want to have a content type that my non-technical users can just enter in the link and text they want and link to an image they select. Does anyone have any modules they would suggest I look into or any suggestions of how to approach creating this from scratch? Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Views Slideshow
Views Slideshow is perfect for creating sliding banners like this.
You will need:
CCK
FileField
ImageAPI
ImageCache
ImageField
Views
Views Slideshow

In your case I most likely would expose the view as a block. You will need to apply some CSS and possibly a custom view template to get everything looking perfect, but a custom content type + Views + Views Slideshow is the only way I would tackle this requirement.
