meetup.com

Does anyone use Meetup.com's "Chapters" feature to manage multiple meetups within a geographic area? We're looking into it in Florida, and was just looking for some feedback about whether or not anyone else in the Drupal community has found success with it.

Erik Bladwin (yes, that's the proper spelling as far as I'm concerned) and I recently took part in a DrupalCon Portland session entitled <a href="https://portland2013.drupal.org/session/making-drupal-meetups-and-events-rock>Making Drupal Meetups and Events Rock. As part of our preparation we, along with the other panelists, set up an online survey about Drupal meetups. One of the more surprising datapoints that came out of it was over 50% of the 161 respondents indicated that meetup.com was how people learned about their meetups. Perhaps we're missing an opportunity to grow the Florida community even more.

I know that in Brevard County, we're not using meetup.com. I'm not sure about the other local meetups around the state, but I think it's time that we make sure that we're all reaching as many Florida Drupaleros as possible.

This is probably the first post on g.d.o I've actually started! I saw a lot of people using it to collect and organize module-related ideas and figured I would too. So here's the deal.

In the past 30 days I have become aware of THREE groups that have either stepped away from GDO, are about to step away from GDO, or are confused on what to do with GDO.
http://groups.drupal.org/chicago ~ Doesn't use GDO invite system to register for events. They use MeetUp.Com They do post event news on GDO but it it often in a digest form on a post that contains other topics and announcements.
