DrupalMU

I think the way DonCoryondefines DrupalMU is exactly what that brings to one first hears it's name. As WordpressMU provides separate independent blogs base on a common code one could expect that DrupalMU should provide such environment:

Separate independent Blogs based on a common Drupal Installation.

I'd like to have http://user.site.com be equivalent to http://site.com/blogs/user (mod-rewrite?) but I'd also like to have the option for a user to specify a custom domain in their profile and have http://customdomain.com map to http://site.com/blogs/user - has anybody written code to do this? If not I'm going to have to write my own module to implement it ....

Where can I get a copy of the installation profile - even an incomplete copy.
I'm currently making one up for a technical community group.

I am very interested in DrupalMU and I am interested in learning from your experiences.
I have been working on an Installation Profile for an out-of-the-box community site (http://www.shareduniverse.net).

So here are some questions that someone might be able to answer.

1. What is the status of DrupalMU?

Installation Profiles

1. I think it is characterized not as a contributed module but as an Installation Profile of a bunch of modules. Is that right?
2. If so, is DrupalMU going to be a part of Drupal 6? Drupal 7?
