Business Directory

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

A place to collaborate on a "recipe" for building a business directory, using existing modules and customisation under the bonnet with the view to eventually developing a Business Directory Module for Drupal.

Come along and

  • help develop a specification
  • share your ideas and suggestions
  • provide support
  • contribute experience and coding expertise
  • help with debugging

Ok i think i have local dialed in.

we have about 2000 businesses in Pendleton, Oregon, USA

Using lat/lon for address (plus regular address.) reading is 4' in front of door plus have a 2nd door lat/lon field and quick lat/lon map. (great for chow carts.) using blackberry satellite app not using cell tower lat/lon do not have a computer phone, still seeing if the 2 jive.

paying people $1.00 per update/database correction. This one thing changes everything.

Any interest in expanding Drupal 8 Semantic Web capabilities for a faceted directory?

I have mostly been away from the Semantic Web (SW) development since Drupal 7. Now that I look at the state of the SW tools in Drupal 8, it seems to have tapered off somewhat. There is the EasyRDF library that has been put into core, which is a positive. But I don't see much use of it in core or in other modules or in the D8 examples (although there was a start at https://www.drupal.org/node/2102705).

"What" and "Where" forms inside the Search form.

I'm sketching a web-app, like a standard YellowPages. At the top I want to place an autocompletable dual search box, like we see on most YellowPages sites:
What? (Taxonomy, Product name, Username) AND Where? (Location).

I'm interested to see what the members of this group have found to be best modules to achieve this type of standard YellowPages functionality???

How can you have 2 boxes inside the search form, one of which is a Location search box?

Looking for a good Drupal Monthly Meet up in London

Hey Guys!

First time joining a group on Drupal.org! This group was referring to me by the California Drupal group. I just recently moved to London from Tokyo. I have a few Drupal websites I manage, one being www.YoNinja.com. I was hoping to meet some fellow Drupalers in London and discuss all things Drupal related. I checked out meetup.com and there seems to be quite a few Drupal meetup groups out there. Does anyone have a recommended group?

I am looking for something that meets monthly during weekdays afterhours ( after 6pm ) in central London.

Nice to meet you all!

Josh

Against the idea of a business directory module

We built a business directory using Drupal 6 with Solr 3.4 integration. See http://www.webnetwork.com.au

I personally am against building a "business directory" module as I see it would be limiting. Business directory websites can vary so greatly in features so it would be much better to use configurations of different Drupal modules to create a specific set of features rather than a business directory module per se.

In our directory, some of the core modules we used:

Apache Solr
Solr Location
content profile integration extending user profiles

Online Business Directory for City

Social Media in Directory

Hi all. I'm curious to know if all of you have social media icons/links connected to your directory. If so, which modules are you using to display those fields. I would like for an article to have a field for social media so that it generates an icon with the link. Would it be sufficient to post just the icons or do you find that pulling a business' latest status be more helpful?

How are you using mapping in Drupal?

This is just a quick survey of how people are using the different mapping systems and modules in Drupal.

Currently there are two separate threads, Location and OpenLayers / Geofield. Which are you using and how? Which are you developing or bug hunting in? What are you doing to move these modules forward? And, what is that goal? Basically, I would like to know what people are doing now and what they will be doing 6 months and 1 year down the road.

I'm showcasing my simple local directory for boat cruising people called The Windward Guide.

I've created the Windward Guide for sailing and yacht cruising.

I've been interested in doing something like is for a while and have tried to revive this group a while back. I know that Michelle was interested in building a directory. @Michelle I would share my code for the map but it's quite hackish and there has been some productive development of the OpenLayers Proximity filter which would serve you much better. Mine is all the different parts of different modules put together in a geolocation / proximity / addressfield fraken-module.

An Example

The theme developer that I use has posted a new Drupal theme that is set up to display a directory structure. You can see it here:

http://www.themeshark.com/demo/westcoast/

It is pretty sparsely populated, but for example you can search in "Cars >> Cars and Trucks" or "Buy and Sell >> Electronics". It apparently just uses standard modules (e.g., Views, Taxonomy). I downloaded it (as a customer), but have not looked into the details yet. At least it shows some things that can be done, however.

Building local directory sites more like wp-localbiz

Hello! I need a little help (and apology if this is not the right place to do this..)

This is based on the wordpress plug-in wp-localbiz. However, it will be more than that!

I am not looking for a "clone", especially a wordpress clone!. wp-localbiz is more aimed at a single web-site - I want to implement a directory. More like Net Space Profits. So this is a merger of two ideas - and on Drupal 7, of course.

Building the ultimate street address management system and geocoding module for Drupal 7

There are several modules in Drupal 6 that manage addresses, geocoding and geospatial points. I would like to see a discussion about them and their better parts to base the construction of an address management system in Drupal 7. I am pulling comments I made in the Address Field module for Drupal 7 module issue queue as I originally wanted to express the ideas here in the the Geolocation Group to make them available to a wider audience. The original thread is at http://drupal.org/node/1093392#comment-4256540.
