half an hour or so talking about how to project manage multiple sites being developed simultaneously, manage multiple developers and staff, version control etc.
second half hour talking about site and module maintenance, upgrades and client management of this.

aimed at small business, freelancers and web design and hosting shops that have multiple customers.
let me know if you would like to do this

I can also run a session on windows live writer - the single best WYSIWYG editor out there! Ask Jeff in Brisbane - i ran one here

Thanks

Sounds like some good sessions.

I would like to finalize some more details before getting session proposals discussed.

Yes

Yes; I have high interest in attending a "Business workflow session", jethrocon.

Was doing social distancing before it was cool.

business dev workflow seems like a good idea.......

your suggested topics above, seem like something that could benefit a lot of people. I think it should be considered. Anyone else think so?

jdsaward's picture

I am wondering if there would be interest in a session around human communication processes as related to Drupal software engineering.

My thoughts around how such a session would look are at this stage very nebular.

A preliminary thought is I am not here offering to lead such a session, but rather offering perhaps to begin organising such, and to begin finding somebody (or more than one somebody) with the requisite professional skills, who would be willing to take on leading the session. That would be somebody with professional level understanding of both human communication (group dynamics), and software engineering (esp. as applied to open source software, and esp. as applied to Drupal.). I would work with that person(s) to co-define a session pathway, and I would manage the organisational aspects of the session.

A preliminary orientative URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_dynamics

That URL may help frame a session agenda, but I am sure other readings will also come into play.

I will use this thread as some sort of interest-gauge and if interest crosses a certain (as yet undefined) threshold move ahead with it. If expressed interest does not cross that threshold I will let this proposal fadeaway for now.

I am not yet committing to this proposal, but may do further along the way.

Feel free to contact me directly about this proposal if you prefer. John, 03 5968 1541.

Signups = Expression of Interest

Just a small note, I left the sign up option open on this event so people can register an expression of interest. However, please note that you will need to register formally, once all the details are finalized.

Date set, leadtime,

Date set, leadtime, committee, ambitious size. Great stuff.

I think your committee is on the large side, don't recruit more. Recruit volunteers that the committee manages.

This sounds great and with

This sounds great and with plenty of time for planning / preparation for both organisers and attendees. Looking forward to what transpires. Definitely interested.

Get Involved

rcross's picture

Just a quick note, the organizing committee for DrupalCamp Australia will be meeting tomorrow. Some people have asked to be involved, but I may have forgotten to include you in the communications so please contact me if you want to contribute and want more details. Also, if you want to be involved but can't attend, still contact me.

Heya, Just curious as to the

Heya,

Just curious as to the progress of the National Event :)

Is there a website or anything?

Minutes from meetings? It'd be awesome to have some visibility as to whether this is going ahead so those of us not in the state can organise leave, flights, etc etc

2 months out

skwashd's picture

Hi Ryan,

Like mig5, I'd be interested to know where things are at with this. I hope this is still going ahead, but based on my experience with organising events, 2 months isn't much time. Any updates?

Hi I'm just expressing a

sime's picture

Hi I'm just expressing a general feeling that we've had at Melbourne meets.

The event so far hasn't lived up to our expectations of a National event. Two examples:

  1. This thread is, being the only contact point for discussion outside the sydney group, isn't being monitored by the committee

  2. The website isn't launched (I'm advised it's happening soon to be fair).

So we just feel that it would be safer to change the name of this event to be "Sydney" only. Let's note too that I'm one of only a couple of people in Melbourne who were not really annoyed about the use of "Australia" in the first place - ie. one of the few people who were ok with it.

G'day from Brisbane. Is anyone able to post an update re planning for this July Drupal weekend gathering?

(I'm trying to organise work commitments in Sydney so that they will coincide with this event and will need to organise flights soon too.)

With over 40 sign-ups at 6 weeks out it has already achieved sufficient momentum to be a decent gathering. As a Drupal newbie I really appreciated the work that Ryan et al put into the one-day event at UniSyd last Oct (Nov??) and am looking forward to this one too.

still on

rcross's picture

hey Sean,

Things are still on, i'm just trying to finish the copy for the website. RL keeps getting in the way, but hope to finish tonight and open for sessions.

Thanks.

After my first meetup last

figs's picture

After my first meetup last night I'm looking forward to this weekend. If possible I'd love to see some presentations covering:

  • An advanced look at some of the drupal basics, e.g. how best to use views, taxonomy, user roles and permissions, cron, etc. And perhaps a look into some recommended or popular modules (e.g. administration menu, etc).
  • A comprehensive look at managing a drupal site, e.g. hosting requirements, installation, module and core upgrades, server configuration, basic site optimisation, site and DB backups, testing and deploying site changes, and general tips, tricks & best practices.
  • Ubercart, recommended product structure, related modules, and possibly even payment gateways, etc.
  • Designing themes.
  • Differences in drupal 7.

It'd be also be great if there was a list of recommended readings (online tutorials, etc) as a sort of prerequisite for presentations so we can get the most out of the courses.

Looking forward to it...

Hey chaps, any news on this

Hey chaps, any news on this yet? Almost 3 weeks to go until the 17th July!

Cheers.

Hey Alex,

Apologies for the delay, my laptop crashed and my hd failed last week and i'm still recovering.

Check out http://sydney2010.drupalcamp.org.au to register and start submitting sessions. I'll post a broader announcement now. Please note that we've also changed the name to "DrupalCamp Sydney" in light of community feedback.

Workshop for people looking at Drupal

peterx's picture

A request from someone with HTML/CSS/PHP experience:
http://drupal.org/node/60470#comment-3150562
I offered a workshop on July 10:
http://drupal.org/node/60470#comment-3152546
and suggested the follow up include DrupalCamp.

The workshop is useful for people who are looking at Drupal and want to take a test drive. If someone has a nice (as in access to good broadband and great espresso) venue in the city, I can run the workshop on a weekday, 13th, 14th, or 15th.

Drupal Camp Sydney - 17-18 July

Sean_Cleary's picture

Re Drupal Camp Sydney - 17-18 July

Well done to those who worked on the website for this Drupal Camp. Good to see the number of people registering growing too! Should be a good two days. Off now to book flights down from Brisbane...

How solid is the event?

davidseth's picture

With less then two weeks to go before the event and only a small list of attendees and sessions... how sure is the event? I have signed up to attend and also to speak. I live up in Townsville so it is no small measure to book flights and accomdation and then preparing a talk!

So I would like to hear some words of encouragment from the organisers.

Thanks.

David

You can do it!

rcross's picture

David, I'm sure you'll do great! ;-)

I've been pretty busy lately, but have a call for later today to try and finalize the logistics.

Thanks, but I meant words of

davidseth's picture

Thanks, but I meant words of encouragment for the Drupal Camp to be going full steam ahead, not so much for my talk ;) I just don't want to be booking flights and accomodation and preparing a talk for something that might not go ahead. It is a lot of money and time...

When I last checked there was only a small handfull of sessions and the most voted session only had 3 votes.

It might be that the voting is a bit hard to find, I know I had trouble finding it. Maybe it could be made more straightforward how to vote. Even putting the voting (for registered users) directly on the sessions page so that with one ajax click the voting/'I'm attending' could be done quickly and easily.

Cheers,

David

Voting for sessions @ 17 & 18 July

Sean_Cleary's picture

On my part laziness - hadn't even looked at voting yet.

Will do so later tonight though.

Thanks for the nudge.

I have also been wondering

univate's picture

I have also been wondering the same thing...

When this was announced earlier this year I had fully intended to try and make it down from Brisbane, but was obviously waiting for all the plans to be more concrete before making any formal plans. I did get a little excited looking at the site just now as it appears there are 40 attendee, but it appears that attendee list is full of spam accounts rather then real attendees? Also I have registered but only indicated that I was unsure, but it still listing me as an attendee.

Signup issues

geoffreyr's picture

Is anyone else having trouble signing up on the camp site? Captcha keeps rejecting me no matter what browser I use, whether I use image or audio, etc.

will try disabling ...

rcross's picture

Thanks for the heads up. We've had issues both with Mollom turned on and off it appears.

I'll turn it off again for now.

not on the committe

amaree's picture

Hi,

Not sure why my name is on committee, whilst i provided support initally i have not been involved with organising except trying to put across community views. Please remove me from the committee as it sets a false expectation as people within the Sydney community are asking me about this Camp.

Ryan if you could update the Drupal Australia Group on what you are doing with this camp it would be great.

Cheers

Good point

rcross's picture

Hey Aimee,

You're right, I should've removed the people from the list who haven't contributed to this event. Please feel free to forward any communications or questions from people to me.

Regarding an update, the details haven't changed (except the name as per community request). The event will be held at the University of Sydney on this Saturday and Sunday.

I was about to post a request for people to confirm their attendance so we can finalize numbers tomorrow for planning / catering / etc. so I'll take the opportunity now:

Please sign up on the website http://sydney2010.drupalcamp.org.au so before 12 noon tomorrow so we can finalize numbers.

Are the session times

figs's picture

Are the session times finalised yet?

Time yes, Content no

rcross's picture

We've got our time table, but haven't finalized which session will be when.

  • Doors open at 9:30 for registration + tea
  • The sessions will start at 10am
  • Lunch at 12
  • 2 more sessions
  • afternoon tea 3-3:30pm
  • 2 more sessions
  • Wrap up & clean up
  • 6pm Move to dinner/drinks (BYO)

Sunday will be approximately the same except there probably will just be the code sprint + support sessions instead of additional sessions.
