Test

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Welcome!

This is a group for talking and planning ways to make Drupal more diverse. Join us if you want to reach outside the community to grow and include people from a variety of backgrounds, ages, abilities, genders, and more.

Also see some other Other Diversity Movements in Open Source for some ideas and inspiration.

Please do not list job postings! They will be deleted! And your karma will decrement -1.

Let's grow the Drupal community, and literally change the face of open source, by broadening models of success in many communities of different backgrounds, abilities, or genders.

What if we had started this 5 years ago? Imagine where we'd be today, and what a difference it would make to the Drupal community. Let's not wait another minute, let's get started now. Go out there, get active and learn through experience. It's critically urgent we do something now. Drupal needs it, as much as the potential Drupal members need it. This isn't a problem special to Drupal, it's a problem in opensource, and a problem in science, technology, engineering and maths in general.

We need a little less talk and a little more action. Tell us what you're working on, what you'd like to do. Share stories about your community and how you're bringing people into the community.

Visualizing and Celebrating Diversity while Growing a Community Organically

Intending to cross-pollinate the Drupal community with other communities that can or do use, Drupal - or free software, seeking to highlight diversity by implementing a visual campaign on several sites that already have robust communities, to make long lasting relationships.

The Free Software Foundation fsf.org has already taken up the call and is implementing the start of this campaign now - soon to be revealed.

How can the Drupal community get involved?

I would like to VOLUNTEER for peer review. I have access to promote the project but would like to get some help on some issues like converting a currently used SQL to a Query. I did some of the Query, but it does not work. TagCloud is located http://drupal.org/sandbox/mgparisi/1282854

Kicking it old Skool!

I know what it feels like to have your hard work critiqued, piles of issues to solve and to deal with some of the hardest discussions and posts we can have. I know the many hours spent, sacrificing time with our loved ones, time without sleep or the so many other things we give up to do our part.

Getting a diverse board for the Drupal Association

One of our key aims is to ensure we have a board that's diverse and representative of the worldwide Drupal community.

Thoughts

Hey all,

I was at the BoF in Chicago and I've been following the discussions in the group since then. It's been hard for me to think about the ideas and criticisms brought up because I've felt like we were jumping ahead to end goals without having a clear direction of how to get there and what we're here for. If I may, I'd like so share some thoughts I've been simmering on.

To me, this group is more about connections with others than it is about Drupal. As people of constituencies that have been systematically oppressed historically and in present time, we often find ourselves feeling isolated and powerless. Seeking connection with others is a reasonable way to fight this, but damn, why do we still feel so isolated and lonely when we're surrounded be other developers and designers at DrupalCons and Camps? I feel like we can talk about initiatives and projects, and even execute them really well and thoughtfully. But it's connections and closeness with others in the community that's at the crux of what we're each looking for.
