Mark Boulton Design Drupal 7 Project

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

This will be the breeding ground for all things related to Mark Boulton's D7 design effort.

UX Suggestion Box @ Drupalcon

If you were at the recent Drupalcon in DC you may have seen Mark Boulton and I at the UX Table plying people with jellybeans and requesting offerings to our Drupal7 UX Suggestion Box. This is just one of the ways that we are hoping to engage the Drupal community in this project and to continue that process, you'll find below the contents of the suggestion box (as of late Friday, unfortunately our desk and all it's contents was trashed on Friday evening (boo!) so it's possible we've missed a few suggestions).

Was the Design Issue Queue a pipe dream?

At Drupalcon 2009 in Washington, the Drupal design community were asked to become active participants in contributing feedback to the Drupal project.

mfer was kind enough to give members of the Design for Drupal (D4D) Group a tour of how we could provide feedback through the Issue Queue. As a matter of fact, we were shown a version of the issue queue in which any project could be flagged as "needs design review".

Usability Mockup: Drupal Dashboard

I have been dealing with clients from multiple Drupal websites today and found myself wishing for the following interface for my clients. Maybe this is something worth pursuing. At least we have a visual to get the discussion started. I've attached the .PSD file and used the icons from the free library found here.

(I hope the img tag works. If not, click on the attached png.)

Expanded default install profiles

This is an outline of suggested additions to the default install profile out of the box.

The idea is to showcase more Drupal features out of the box, as well as demo a site that is more targetted at a particular use case, which in this case is a community site. See this post for further background.

For bonus points, we might consider a "wizard" as part of the install profile that describes each content type / feature bundle and prompts people to include it or not OR choose an "express install" that enables and configures everything listed below.

Lastly, this profile would ship with a new core theme that is optimized for this use case or use case(s).

I firmly believe that an expanded core install profile will be part of the recommendations that M&L come up with as part of their work. Their recommendations will not get implemented without code and issue queue patches, so I am suggesting we use this space to get out ahead of them. When the time comes, we can refine this install profile and what has already been committed.

Shortname is D4D, new theme for core to match install profile

Changed shortname here to D4D. I suggest that tag get used in the issue queue and elsewhere as well.

Also changed shortname for Mark Boulton group -- http://groups.drupal.org/drupal7ux

My proposal / idea was to work on a new design that:
a) has a particular goal to match the out of the box install profile that ships with core
b) highlights different features of the theming system - regions, different node types, etc.
c) highlights different strengths of drupal -- different data types, multi-user capabilities (profiles, blogs, additional roles)

Group shortname drupal7ux

From the design sprint here at DC Drupalcon 2009, I made a short name for this Mark Boulton group of "Drupal7ux" -- it's a little more memorable and easier to rattle off in person.
