We are planning to hold some rotating meetings this upcoming year. We would like to continue a rotation between communities every few months or so. If you would like to host a meeting in your community, go for it!
Welcome to the Drupal groups page of the Drupalhawks user group. We are a collection of Drupal enthusiasts from Eastern Iowa. of all skill levels that meet on a regular basis to learn, share the things we've figured out, and spread the good word about Drupal. If that description matches you, we encourage you to join. Our meeting list can be found below.

Search is the new Navigation

Menus as a means to finding content are fundamentally flawed in two ways:

They is a one to one relationship with content such that the number of menu items is directly tied to number of nodes. This is not scalable as content grows.

Creating navigation from a system that basically only allows for one mental path way to any one item is limited. This is not scalable to multiple perspectives, types of audiences or more than one way to find something.

We will start with a small presentation regarding User Alerts for snow emergencies or other types of notices for your users. This will include a rundown of the modules used and how to configure them.
The 2nd part of the meeting will be Q&A (or "issues and lessons learned") and then we will finish off with discussions on DrupalCorn 2013 being held in August at Iowa City.

Twin Cities Drupal Camp 2013 (MN)
The Twin Cities Drupal Camp will be held Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21 in Minneapolis MN. Camp kicks off with a day of classes on Thursday, followed by two days of workshops, and closes with a sprint on Sunday.

Remote PHP Debugging Using Eclipse
I would like to be able to debug (walk through) some PHP/Drupal code (specifically some Islandora contributed modules) to try and solve some apparent configuration problems (and just to get better acquainted with the inner workings of the system). I've got Eclipse with PDT setup on my Windows 7 system, and wish to conduct some remote debugging of code that lives on an Ubuntu 10.04 virtual 'test' server. There appears to be a lot of good remote debug configuration info available (perhaps too much to sift through) on the web, but I haven't found any that's specific to my environment yet.

Hello all. Sorry I can't make the meeting in Ames this evening...I have a school board meeting and a user training session afterward. Hoping to make the next meeting in October.
I do have a problem that I can't find a solution for so I thought I would toss this out to the group and see if anyone can suggest a fix.
The issue is with Rich Text editing in Drupal 6. Lately I've had similar experiences with different editors (FCKEditor, CKEditor and TinyMCE) on different hosts and sites (about a 8-10 different circumstances/systems). The problem is that when I edit rich text in a WYSIWYG field (like a node body field) my edits are not always saved unless I switch to plain text or source display BEFORE clicking Save.

You may have heard a lot about the DrupalCorn Camp 2012 but there is also a pre-camp Training Day that you may consider attending. Although the courses are not totally free, at $20 (lunch included) this is a nominal fee.
