Facebook API

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Facebook now has some open APIs. How about we work together to make a Facebook API module that can be extended for site specific needs, but has a solid base to integrate Facebook and Drupal.

Facebook Auth Module

Noticed that the other one .. well doesn't support the new platform in the slightest, therefore doesn't work.

Whipped up a new version using the standard library.

I have yet to decide if i'm going to try and push to get this to replace the current code, or setup a new module, but in the mean time, i have a early release up @ http://www.kodekoan.com/files/facebook_auth.tgz which someone might be interested in.

Added its own new project. http://drupal.org/project/facebook_auth

NewsCloud source code release of their Facebook app

See https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=180636&package_id...

NewsCloud made a very interesting little Facebook app, and they released the source of the Facebook part of their application. Looks easy enough, perhaps a starting point to look at for some ideas.

First Drupal Facebook app -- NowPublic widget?

See http://apps.facebook.com/npwidget/

Just shows stories that are posted, and I think that's a really simple functionality that could definitely be part of a generic API -- different RSS feeds / views.

I think ChipIn.Com might be next....

Potential Modules to use a Facebook API

There's alot of uncited things in this article. I'll come back later w/ the proper links. Also, I'm not 100% up-to-speed with the newer features of the FB Platform, like FBML. Most of what I state about the Platform is from previous knowledge of the API.

Once a base module that implements the Facebook API is completed, what are some potential modules that could be built? Here's a starting list. I'm not going to consider whether it should be an .inc or .module, since that is a design consideration to be taken into account after we have a solid base to build off of.

Making a FacebookAPI.module

I've already talked to at least half a dozen people that want to "integrate Drupal with Facebook". In some ways, that is a meaningless statement, since integration will be very specific to your site or service that happens to be built with Drupal.

But, I think we can join forces and at least have a solid module that can be extended.

Right now, I'm thinking along the lines of the pathauto module: it has a series of *.inc files (e.g. pathauto_node.inc) that allow it to work

Here are some ideas:
* facebookapi_event.inc (for event and date) -- post an event in Drupal, have it post to Facebook as well
* facebookapi_node.inc -- post a node, have it post as a Note to Facebook

What about "social networking"? Can we show Facebook information embedded directly in / extended from a Drupal user profile?

Update: it has been pointed out to me that I wasn't clear on the value for "Facebook Applications". If you make FunkyService.com and build it with Drupal, you'll still have to do some custom work for your special FunkyService. But, ideally, utilizing this kind of an API module, it would be as simple as a hook_facebookapi or a facebookapi_funkyservice.inc in order to work with FB.

Let's make Drupal a great platform for making Facebook Apps with....
