This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

Custom code : 30+ small modules vs 5 large modules vs 1 HUGE module ? Which is better?

So, we have a large, complex Drupal 6 site, which has lots of secret sauce and magic glue making it work.

Where we can, we've contributed modules back and made them generic, but we still have 30 or so custom modules to keep it working the way we need it to. Each module (in most cases) has a specific function e.g. our hook alters for the notification system.

Big Performance Gains - Low Risk

Cache module_implements() - 300ms
Optimize element_children() - 400ms
_menu_link_translate() might avoid calling _menu_load_objects() - 250ms (if using views module)
Clean up drupal_get_schema_versions() - 2000ms (admin status page).

Memory usage much higher on production server than on local install

When using devel to view the memory use on a page, my production server is reporting a memory of anywhere between 70MB to 90MB, however the same site installed locally on MAMP the memory use is around 20MB which is much better. Both have apc installed, so is this difference due to the hardware or do I have a problem on my production server?

Hello.

I create this issue after spending some hours of searchin any complete "to do list" which will tell all steps how to provide Authenticated User Cache and make it as fast as possible.

As far as I know by know there are 2 user-kind of cache:

Anonymous - which is pretty easy to provide (boost module is quite enough).
However probably some cache handler and additional non-drupal software lik APC and other can give greater performance
Authenticated Cache
There is a module like "AuthCache".

Monitoring MySQL on a Small Server

I have a Drupal multisite installation with one RackSpace Cloud Server for the web server and another Cloud Server for the database. The web server has Varnish, APC, Memcache and Apache while the database server is running MySQL. Internetworking between the web server and database server is via the RackSpace private network.

I have been adding Drupal multisites to the web server and creating the corresponding database tables.

The Cloud Server for the database has 256MB RAM with no swap. $top shows 23MB free on restart and goes down to about 5MB free on prolonged use.

I am looking for some guidelines on properly configuring apache/php for Drupal. I realize this is a bit of a "it all depends on x, y or z" type of question, but I would greatly appreciate any resources/recommendations that outline best practices for configuration and optimization of apache?

Drupal Bottlenecks With Many Concurrent Users

Can someone help explain a little how pages are served and how to determine where a bottleneck on a site with concurrent users? I'm testing a site where 25 logged-in users change pages about every 15 seconds. My understanding is:

Hi,

I just look at my mysql statistic and I see that there is some problem with table locking.

SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Table%'

Table_locks_immediate 3412356
Table_locks_waited 2798

But how can I known which table exactly has this problem? I already known that session and watchdog tables must be in InnoDB, maybe something else too? Maybe voting api or cache tables?

All attached my tables list.
