The Multi-lingual Initiative and Field API has space in their sprinting facility on the Sunday before Drupalcon, so we're going to be sharing that space to run a Mobile Initiative sprint.

I've been following Lewis' developments with the prototype and talked to some people about how to implement it and I think it's possible but to do it right will take a lot of work.
I would like to share my notes on this and make a suggestion to discuss pushstate-ajax (pjax) in Drupal, because as browser support is improving I think this will be the technology that allows websites (webapps) to catch up with native apps in terms of speed, responsiveness and scalability.

Using Browscap with Panel Panes and Drupal Blocks
Many users have asked me how they can hide a block or panel pane in mobile, so to fill this gap I created two new modules that utilize the Browscap module (device detection):
Browscap Block adds a visibility option to block configuration settings to allow you hide blocks in mobile devices.
Browscap CTools includes an access control plugin to show or hide panel panes in mobile devices using the pane visibility settings.

Following the release of the new Google Cloud Messaging, we were able to release our first example for new approach for Drupal/mobile.
Currently all we offer is a combination of several Drupal modules (Google Cloud Messaging, Rules, Services and views) on the Drupal side, and a basic Android application on the other side.

Last week, I attended the 2012 MIT-Knight Civic Media Conference at the MIT Media Lab and had the opportunity to do a 5-minute "ignite talk" about the What's Up initiative that we are carrying in Wisconsin:
Built on VoIP Drupal (http://drupal.org/project/voipdrupal/), What's Up is a software platform designed to allow people in a small geographic community to share information, plan events and make decisions, using media that is as broadly inclusive as possible.
