Tagging old Content with new Taxonomy Terms

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I've been using a Drupal site for a while now but just started playing around with views. It became clear that I would need taxonomy terms to catagorize my content correctly.

So though my site has probably a month's worth of content on it, today I created taxonomy vocabulary and terms. Volia! Everythings great... All NEW content gives the option to add the taxonomy tags. Problem is... all the OLD content, the previous books that I had created are not allowing me to link them to the taxonomy terms from the "Edit" page.

How can I edit books that I created previous to today's implementation of 'taxonomy' so that they are all tagged as well? Do I have to re-create everything? Or is there another way to categorize them so I can make them show up correctly in Views?

you won't have to recreate everything.

your vocabularies have the option to be limited to a content type. Is the new content that is working, of the same content type as the "books"?
Double check your vocabulary settings.

sorry, I'm not confident about what your problem is... try to figure out what the difference between the old and new content is, other than existing pre-taxonomy or post-....

good luck

I double checked settings - everything seems fine....

Specifically I have 2 books with about 20 different posts in each that I want to categorize under Taxonomy terms.

So I just created my first Vocabulary and I called it "Book Tags". I assigned it to the 'books' content.
The two terms created are "Travel" and "Shopping".

Since I want ALL new (book) material posted to be categorized to one of these two options, I made it a required field.

Now, any NEW Book that I create shows a field with a drop down menu with these two terms to choose from.

Old books, however, that I want to assign to these terms do not bring up this drop down menu on the edit page.

So, maybe I have a setting error, maybe I have a bug.... it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not familiar with the

I'm not familiar with the book content type, but I believe that there is another content type for the actual contents of the books. So "Book" may not be the correct content type. Try setting the vocabulary to content type "Page", or whatever content type is a sub of "Book".

WOOHOO

That did it, thanks.

It looks like "Books" handled new "Book pages" but once the content is created it puts it into the category of "story".

So I had to assign the taxonomy terms to "Book" and "Story".

Thanks so much for your help!
