Potential topic for the next Manchester meetup...

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've talked about the Omega theme, and recently (less than a week ago) I've started working on the roadmap for the future of Omega (http://drupal.org/project/omega). This will be the 7.x-2.0 branch of Omega.

As there are/have been quite a few users in the NH group that are using Omega, or have at the very least, tested it out, I'd like the chance to run my roadmap (full of screenshots and slides) to demonstrate my vision, and obtain some feedback, and additional features that might be very beneficial...

The basis of this discussion/presentation would be on the visual interface to advance Drupal theming (and grid theming) into the future. I'm working on a visual representation for managing regions, zones (region containers), and also an interface with draggable components to resize regions on the fly.

Seth/Others... Does this sound like a decent topic for the next meetup? I'd estimate maybe 1hr/1.5hr total for overview of the roadmap, as well as a Q&A/suggestion period at the end.

Sounds good to me

I've just installed the latest beta of Drupal and Omega to start experimenting for my gallery site. So heaing about Omega updates and a chance to give feedback would be great.

Cool, I'd definitely love the opportunity to get some feedback for the most part, and lets just say the direction Omega is about to take in D7 (mind you, there is already a D7 version working, but the 2.x branch) is groundbreaking in its new concepts & proposed interface, and I've also found some other themes to steal a few things from to tack on a few extra great features... ;)

Update on topic...

So I've spent now close to 80 hours in the past 2 weeks on the 2.x branch of Omega in D7....

I have both a decent presentation on the concepts of the new version, including wireframes for the proposed interface for visually sizing, moving and configuring regions & zones.

I've also been able to start the complete rewrite of the core code for Omega, and have a working version that can also be demoed.

The demo version will not have the actual interface suggested in the wireframes, but a more "traditional" interface via 1.75 million theme settings, just as the current version(s) have. However, this is the structural base for creating an advanced interface, so the interactions I can demonstrate will relate directly to how the interface will eventually be setup.

Woot! Can't wait to toot Omega's horn on these great new advances...
Prepare to see 960 grids in a way you've never imagined!!!

Looking forward to more Omega goodness!

Jake why don't you post the meeting announcement with your agenda for next week.

After seeing your nice layout of the NH page I'd like to hear you talk about panels. Maybe a panels do's and dont's or best practices.
