Hi - my name is Elaine Nelson, and I work with Drupal as part of my job as a webmaster. I've been to several Drupal events in Seattle, and both of the Pacific NW Drupal Summits, and it's great to be in the community...but I hate freeway driving, and I have a pretty full schedule, so giving up most of a day for travel is a hard sell. So: Olympia Drupal group!
I'd like to get together and share tips, show off projects, and occasionally commiserate over frustrations. For a first meetup, I have a mini-project that I started inspired by some of the presentations I saw at the last Drupal Summit that I can walk through.
What days/times are convenient for folks?
(Cross-posting to Tacoma in case anyone subscribed there actually lives further south, or is interested in a drive this way.)

Hey Elaine.
Generally Wednesday or Friday evenings work best, but I could meet up during the lunch hour if that works better. I'm down for sharing.

I would be interested as
I would be interested as well. I work in Seattle, however I do work from home part of the time as well. I don't have a set schedule as to when I will be home in Olympia, but generally speaking I am home every evening/night and on weekends.
A Drupal Group in Olympia (area)--Awesome!
Elanie,
Tuesday and Thursday evenings are usually best for me--(between 6 and 8PM). Thanks for putting up the groups listing. Hope us "southern" Drupal Puget Sounders can meet in the near future.

Olympia Area
I would love to get with people who know what they are doing with Drupal. I can adjust my schedule to most any time except Sundays and Wednesday. I also am committed the first and third Tuesdays. I look forward to meeting all the South Enders.

This is great! I've wanted to
This is great! I've wanted to go the Seattle meetups but haven't had a chance.
I'm currently out of town, will be back in a couple weeks, and any night of the week works well for me.
I'm in.
Count me in. Right now, any evening works. I'm in Tacoma, but there hasn't been any activity on TacDug for months, so I'd be happy to come down.
I'm back
Been a busy couple of weeks. :)
Tuesdays are out for me, as are third Thursday evenings, but most other times will work for me. It sounds like Wednesday and Thursday are the best days of the week in the evening: Dec 8 or 9 sound good?
Brian suggested the Cutter's Point in Hawks Prairie as a meeting spot, partially for its ease of access from I5 for the Tacoma/Centralia folks. Any other location suggestions?
Dec 8th Sounds Great
I'm good for the evening of the 8th (Dec). Not sure what time would be great for others, but I'm open for whatever time. I'll throw the first stone and say 6:30PM or 7:00PM? Just called the local Cutters Point and they are open until 9PM weekday evenings and they have a table that you can reserve that fits 6 to 8 people.
Looking forward to meeting all the other Drupulers (don't know if that sounds right, but funny) in the South Sound.

I cannot do Wednesdays.
I cannot do Wednesdays. Thursday December 9 is great for me. Either 6:30 or 7:00 is great for me.

I am good for either Dec 8th
I am good for either Dec 8th or 9th
Likewise
I can do either.
Final Decision on Date/Time/Location for First Meeting?
OK, I'm hoping we can all meet up on a particular date soon. I know we slimmed it down to Dec 8th or 9th, but then see Bruce can't do the 8th (Wednesday). So, can we all agree to the finalize:
- Evening of Dec 9th (Thursday) to meet up for an hour or so?
- Cutter Point in Lacey (exit 111 from I-5) is a good location for all?
- And does 7:00PM sound like a good time to meet up (giving enough time for people to get off work, travel, and such)?
If this all sounds good, please leave a note and I'll go ahead and reserve us a table at Cutters Point for the 9th.
Looking forward to meeting everyone. Hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving.

That date works very well. Look forward to meeting everyone.
Bruce
Works for me too.
See ya there.
Sounds like a good day/time
Sounds like a good day/time for me, so count me in. :)
Awesome! I'll Reserver CP Table for the 9th
Looks we have 4 people so far saying it looks good for the evening of December 9th (next Thursday). The more the merrier (no pun intended for this time of the year) :)
I'll call and reserve the nice table/area tomorrow for us at the Cutters Point in Lacey. Also, I'll post directions and a map after everything is confirmed.
Thanks everyone.

Question
So, I have never attended one of these meetings. What are we going to do? Should we bring a laptop so we can look at each other's work, or is that not what we are about? Just wondering.
Bruce
1st Meeting Location Reserved
OK, I called this morning and reserved a table/room for our first meeting on December 9th at 7:00PM. Below is a direct link to a Google Map for the exact location:

If you need to put in your GPS, here is the address for Cutters Point: 1340 Marvin Road, Lacey WA 98516
Free wireless connections are available, so please bring your laptops and such.
Oh, Bruce--about your question on what are we going to do...I'm hoping Elaine might have something planned if not, I'm sure we can come up with something? I would say that it being our first meeting we would just go through introductions and talk about our Drupal work (of course show it too).
~ Brian
thank you!
Thanks for keeping this moving; I really appreciate it.
I thought I had some notes from the Pacific NW Drupal Summit about ways to organize an event, but apparently not. (My laptop battery died that weekend, so my notes - http://www.elainenelson.org/categories/professional/pnwds/ - are a bit sketchy.)
I like something like November's Seattle DUG agenda: http://groups.drupal.org/node/104244 although we probably don't have enough people to break into groups. :) In general, bring something to show off if you've got it, and something to gripe about or get help with.
No Problem
Elaine, anything to help get us going and hopefully help each other, in some form or fashion. :)
I like your ideas on what we should do for the first meeting and nothing too in-depth since it's the first meeting. Before we end the first one we should come up with a "rough agenda" of future meetings and ask people to volunteer to be the POC for that subject matter? Just a thought.

Meeting Agenda
Hey All,
I'm a regular attendee at the SeaDUG meetings and organize the TacDUG meetings (when we have them).
Both have their own unique character. Seattle has an agenda, a projector, and 20-30 regular attendees (many have been going for years). The "breakouts" someone mentioned about SeaDUG happen later, at the bar.
Tacoma meets at the Parkway Tavern (31 taps), we don't really have an agenda, and unless someone has specific Drupal questions, it's more of a networking event for Drupal folks. The conversation ranges from Drupal, to beer to clients stories, etc.
Our high point was 20 folks (when we had joint meetings with TacLUG), typical attendance was 4-6 but one "meeting" in the summer was just me.
Attendance (both SeaDUG and TacDUG) is always higher in the winter when it's cold and rainy.
I wish I could make the inaugural OlyDUG but am traveling the next day so it's unlikely. That said I think the character of the meetings will be shaped by the attendees.
Don't forget: meeting tonight (Dec 9)
