I have posted a review of Drupal 5 Themes by Ric Shreves. It's the first book dedicated entirely to Drupal theming. We needed this.
Basically, it's great for the designer wanting to learn Drupal or the Drupal newbie wanting to get a handle on Drupal's abstracted theme layer. While it covers the fundamentals well, I never found the cool new tricks I was hoping for.

Yeah, I started poking at it as well and didn't find to have all I hoped for. Although I didn't know about the PHPTal rendering engine which seems pretty cool.
