Adding cck fields to existing OP content types...bad idea or okay?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi,

Using OP 2.1 and have, what I think, might be a silly question. I've added some cck fields to the Article content type and am wondering if I update to 2.2+, will this cause issues? Meaning:

A. Will I lose these fields?
B. Will it interfere with the update?

I am assuming the answer is no for both, but need to be sure.

Is this the way I should have handled this? Should I have exported the Article content type as a feature, imported it, then modified it? I couldn't find any documentation or FAQ dealing with this issue.

Thanks in advance.

If your changes are

If your changes are substantial you may be better off using Features Clone module. Doing so will not cause update problems, but well, you will have forked the module, so you won't get updates either.

Unfortunately, Features module does not, currently, support a "merge" so if you modify something it can't merge your modifications with the possible modifications in the future version of the distribution.

In most cases it's OK, though, but just something to keep in mind.

Adding Main Image to Blog?

I'm interested in simply adding a main image to the blog entry content type.

Will this cause problems?

It won't cause problems but

It won't cause problems but your feature will become overridden.
