Walang kakwenta-kwentang kwento ng buhay... Don't waste your time reading...

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I started to use Drupal about 14 weeks 3 days ago as depicted in my account in Drupal.org. I found our Pinoy group because of this post.

I join because I want to keep in touch with people of my blood. I am not an IT professional and I don't have any proper training in website development. I started to build static pages last October 2007 in free hosting as a hobby, but this hobby turns into passion. My stay at free hosting gave me some opportunities to learn the basic HTML and some CSS. Being my passion, I go with the paid hosting at Yahoo! in November 2007 then run my static pages with my very own domain. How proud am I with my own domain.

Hey mga tol, alam nyo, may sarili na akong dot com. Ganun ba pare? pano mo ginawa yun? diba ang hirap non? Ngayon, bilib na kayo sa akin? kalevel ko na yata si yahoo at si google. lol.

Static pages did not satisfy my appetite, I want my readers to actively participate in discussion. I tried phpBB and successfully run a forum. Because of my monthly cost at Yahoo!, I moved to a cheaper host to cut some cost. Why should I pay $12 for this if I can continue my hobby in a much lesser cost? January 2008, I moved to my present host and was amazed with many things inside the box. I lost my forum community but I am very much happy with my transfer; there are many features at a cheaper cost. I tried almost everything in Fantastico (b2evolution, Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, Mambo, PHP-Nuke, phpBB, SMF, Gallery, etc...). I install and uninstall, install and uninstall, install and uninstall until I settled to Joomla for 1 month. I still run my static pages and maintain the same subdomain to the majority of my contents, so only my forum was lost. I like Joomla and I thought I will hold on it until my site stabilize, not until I found a thread comparing Joomla and Drupal in Joomla forum itself. In that discussion, Drupal sounds very promising but as I remembered from my trial installation, there is nothing interesting with Drupal, I can only see texts out there and the only graphic is the cartoon of Joker Arroyo used as Drupal's logo.

After I install the community builder of Joomla, my site become noticeably slow. I am not sure what causes it because I already install and uninstall many modules to it. But this opted me to consider Drupal. After poking around the Joomla site, I read the blog of one of its developer congratulating Drupal of winning from some sort of Google competition, I am not sure what is that, but it made me decide to remove my Joomla installation and give a try to Drupal.

After some clicking with Fantastico, I am up and running Drupal in just a minute. I started to go around with Drupal, and after a close looked at it, I started to like the organization of the admin section. But to my dismay, my subdomains no longer work but at least my static pages are still accessible via sub folders of my domain. The big trouble is, I really don't know where to start and how to start. So I made my first post to Drupal forum and the handbook link helped me a lot. When I ask the forum community, how to reactivate my subdomains, I was surprised that I am running a Drupal version with publicly known security issues. Being afraid of spambot (as it happens to me in my phpBB forum), I erase Drupal 5.3 installed by Fantastico and install Drupal 5.7 from scratch. The video in the documentation section greatly helped my successful installation. I was NOT able to reactivate my subdomain until now, but I think I don't need it because I already migrated all my static pages to Drupal's database. With all these small experiences, I am now very careful in making my next move; read first the documentation, read some issues, evaluate if I really need this feature before I install it. I created a local machine installation using XAMPP for a playgorund and now I am running my forum using the Advanced forum. My community is growing little by little and I can't believe it, I am now running seamlessly a dynamic website without knowing any php and mySQL.

Thank you for wasting your time with this post, ang walang kakwenta kwentang kwento ng buhay...

My site is open for users to create blog, upload images and participate to forum. Pero iilan lang kami na nagsusulat ng blog. The most active area of my site is the forum. All users except me cannot contribute to reviewers (book content), only myself can upload to that area. Pero ginawa kung hindi masyadong accesible ang mga pag-upload upload na yan, takot ako sa spammers, I installed captcha pero takot pa rin ako kung tao na ang mag spam, kumakain kasi sila ng oras...
