We just launched www.bakitsira.net a new drupal site aimed for Filipinos. It's a community site for posting your complaints on defective products and services. I'll be posting a more detailed write-up soon, in the meantime enjoy the possibilities drupal provide.
Here is a more detailed write-up.
We recently launched www.bakitsira.net using drupal. We have been creating drupal sites but this is our first try to create a community site where content is user-generated.
www.bakitsira.net aims to create a community of informed Filipino consumers by providing a platform where users like you and me, can post their experiences with different products and services. Since vendors have the big media machine to prop up their products and services, we believe it is high time that we the consumer speak out the truth about their products.
The idea may not be novel but we think there is a need for this kind of platform to cater to Filipinos.
We modified the very nice alek_2_0 theme by seoposition.com after we went through the other nice themes available at drupal. We like the color scheme of alek_2_0 and we jut added some splash of red and yellow to the mix.
Modules
1)CCK + Views + Panels is just a powerful combination, especially with mini-panels. We added Tabs Panel to create the tabs on the frontpage. We wanted everything to be on the frontpage but we had to wrestle with the idea of a very long frontpage since we wanted teasers of the content to be posted, instead of just mere titles. The tabbed view gave us the option to put everything on front without having to force the user to scroll down a lot.
2)Fivestar module – we used this to get more interaction from the user and to make all posts accountable to the community since users can rate the contents. A block of popular content based on votes is created by using views.
3)User points module – to further reward users for their contribution. More activities on the site a user does, means more points and the top 5 contributors get displayed. By assigning user points for roles, users with enough points gain extra privilege on the site, such as comment moderation and content moderation. Sweet eh.
4)Tagadelic module – to display the most complained vendor or product. Since all content must be tagged according to product and vendor, one can easily get an idea what/who gets most of the rant.
5)Abuse module – to keep the content relatively better and avoid unwanted and offensive posts. Users with enough points can immediately flag content and delete offensive content. Other users can also flag content for moderators to review. Since were using user points, those user who gets their content deleted loses points accordingly. So be good for goodness sake.
6)Captcha module Mollom module - protection for spam comments
7)Watcher module – to allow users to select which posts they want to follow with just a simple click.
We hope to see you at the www.bakitsira.net community.

Both initiatives are great
This is indeed the kind of things the Philippines need, I already bookmarked both of your sites. Perhaps you should somehow make arrangements to work together on this. I hope both sites will become a success, I might plan to realy check out both sites if I can find some extra time the next coming days/week(s).
Are you guys planning to make the site available in Filpino also?
I really hope so. I've been
I really hope so. I've been struggling recently with time so my efforts for translation of drupal 6 core have been put on hold (sigh). but www.bakitsira.net is open for placing Filipino content since it is mainly for Filipinos

as long as you balance the 24 hours things will work out ok. as for me, 2 hours/day is alloted to drupal, and no more. this way i get other things done since drupal can really be a hook.

Wow nice site...
I really like the way you use the tabs, your theming is very nice, but above all, the idea of your website is very cool.
I really like your theme, the icons, the shadows who are to eat the icons, your logo, very well done and clean. I hope I can start to work for my own theme too, but my only idea on how to start is to read first then read again... :) Good job.
thanks for the nice review.
thanks for the nice review. I really appreciate it. I hope the site will be a success and provide the platform it aims to be.

1/3 of your day is for Drupal whoa! If you are a full-time web developer, this is ok, but for me Drupal is just a hobby, so 2 hours is enough. But I wish I can have more time for it.
