Wow. What a weekend. Florida DrupalCamp 2011 is in the books and by all accounts it was a huge success. With almost 250 attendees and 6 tracks of sessions, this was the largest Drupal event ever held in the state of Florida. Attendees traveled from all corners of Florida, as well as a growing number from out-of-state (Illinois, New Jersey, Georgia, North Carolina, to name a few) to participate.
If you took any pictures at the event, please tag them with #FLDC when you post them on your social media site of choice. If you have any feedback from the event, feel free to post it publicly in the comments below or privately via the Florida DrupalCamp web site contact form. If you'd like to help out, sponsor, or present at next year's camp, please let us know as well.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the weekend a great success. Special thanks go out to:
- Erik Baldwin and John Learned of Cloud Nyne Design for their tireless work on the web site, t-shirts, food planning, and everything else they did.
- Andrew Riley of MindComet for his work in making sure we had everything we needed at Rollins as well as working with the Orlando Social Media Club's sessions.
- Ryan Price of DrupalEasy for his work with session planning and marketing, and (most importantly) finding the location for the excellent post-camp party at Shipyard Brewery.
- Don VanDemark for his work on session planning.
- Gaelan Adams for his work on the beginner session track.
- Hewie Poplock and Carlton Jacobs and their amazing group of volunteers at the Central Florida Computer Society.
- Stephen Matheny for his work in identifying and securing Rollins as a partner and venue.
- Brian Henties at the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center for providing such an outstanding venue.
- All of our presenters who took the time to travel to Winter Park, prepare a presentation, and volunteer to share their knowledge with the community.
- All of our sponsors for making it possible to have such an outstanding event for just $10/person!
- Ben, Angie, Maggie, Rene, Nadia, Jen, John, Hector, John, Adam, Elizabeth, Chip, and anyone else that I most likely forgot to mention (please rectify any omissions I made in the comments below so that I can apologize appropriately).
Presenters - if you haven't already done so, please update your session on fldrupalcamp.org with any slides and/or notes you used during your presentation. If you don't have access to the site, please request access here.
Coding for a Cause was a great success thanks to the 30+ people that participated. While we didn't complete CFCS's site, we did make some great progress. We'll be formulating a plan in the next few weeks for finishing things up - stay tuned.
This month's Orlando meetup (scheduled for next Saturday, February 19) isn't happening. If this past weekend wasn't enough for you, please re-evaluate your priorities (go outside and play!)
What's next? Florida is too big for just one major Drupal event per year. I talked to some people from south Florida about a potential event in the fall. Let's get some discussion going and make it happen.
SW Florida Drupalers (Sarasota - Naples) made a strong showing over the weekend - let's get a regularly scheduled monthly meetup going!

Gainesville
There was also a huge contingent of people from The Swamp. There are already meetups going there, but I think several of the people at the camp had not attended for a while. They seem to have a very large, talented, latent community up there. Hopefully we'll hear more about them too!
Can't wait to see everyone in Chicago!

Outstanding Camp!
You guys really outdid yourselves this year! I'd like to thank all of the red-shirts who helped out. It was a great, well put together event that really goes a long way toward the Drupal community. Just like last year, I left Saturday's camp with my head full of ideas and ways to implement them within my sites.
Thanks again everyone!

A Great Weekend!
Just wanted to chime in to say thanks to everyone that made it all happen over the weekend. Best 10 bucks I ever spent!
When is the next Orlando meetup?
Just wondering when the next meetup is and if there is a place besides this group to keep an eye out for future events in O town.
Next Meetup
will be March 19th at 1PM. They are always the 3rd Saturday of each month at Mindcomet and are posted here. We will not have our normal Feb. meeting next Saturday since we all need a break from this past weekend.
This is still the best source of information for Orlando and all other Central FL Drupalers, IMHO.

Thanks John
Appreciate your quick response.
Last but not least....
A standing ovation for MIKE ANELLO!! For all his behind the scenes work for securing sponsors, his great leadership for getting us all together to make this happen, and being the world's best all-things-Drupal cheerleader!
I'd also like to thank all the other people who also helped greatly with the website: Gaelan Adams, David Trainer, Mike Herchel, Joe Moraca, Don VanDemark, Ryan Price and Mike Anello. And..(drumroll)..Rene Esteves for his long hours and amazing work for the mobile site!! Next task is to get some of our additions into COD :-)
Also, we hope to sell the extra t-shirts on the website so stay tuned for an announcement.

I had a great time at my
I had a great time at my first Drupal event in Florida. Thanks everyone! I hope to see all of you at DrupalCamp Atlanta this fall.
So disappointed that I missed it
I was so hoping to go to this year's Drupal Camp at Rollins College. I went to school there as a music major ages ago. Is it still as beautiful as I remember?
Have any of the sessions been posted online? And is there any way to put myself on a mailing list for direct notification of the next event that comes up? I went online several times to find out where to register, and never found anything....I sort of gave up checking, and just recently realized that I missed it. What a drag.
Feeling dumb. :( WCW
