    The Agenda

    tomsherlock's picture

If you are going to attend the NNJ Drupal meeting please take the time to review the agenda and the list of potential topics we could cover.

If you are not interested in the topics currently on the agenda, post here what you would like to discuss. I will add it to the agenda. Please
review the list of topics first.

With regards to the current agenda, you may notice that it is basically the same as the February meeting. That's because some topics requiring
a decision were discussed inconclusively or were not discussed at all.

    Possible Presentation: Module and Node

    tomsherlock's picture

I'm considering making a presentation on how to write a module and how to write a node.

I have been in the process of reworking a website (LincolnSchoolPTA.net). I have one module in the website that assists PTA members in volunteering for PTA events and by selecting desired stations for a specific event. While this module works. Although it's been used effectively for almost two years; it's really just one big hack.

I've decided to rewrite this module along Drupal standards and conventions. I've been using Pro Drupal 6 Development, second edition, to guide me in the rewrite. The book is very useful.

As a result I am considering making a presentation on how to code a module and how to code a node. I'm not coming from the perspective of an expert, but rather from the understanding of a self-motivated student.

Would this interest you? Would you like me to dedicate a half hour or a full hour to the two topics?

I will do a similar, follow-up presentation in Drupal 7 once I have upgrade my module to Drupal 7.

Absolutely. My company is a sponsor so I'll be spending a bit of time at our booth, but I'll bring report on anything I'm able to attend.

If there's any discussion about a NJ DrupalCamp at the meetup I'd really like to get involved, so I'm hoping the details will get listed here.

    Project Collaboration?

    tomsherlock's picture

In the February meeting one participant, Kyle, had suggested that we bring our own projects to the meeting to work on with the group. The idea is that by having a hands-on project we could learn and retain more.

I like this idea and would accept any project whether for hired work, for pro bono work or hobbies.

Does anyone have a project they want to work on with NNJ Drupal in lieu of giving a presentation?

    Hi everyone,

Just a quick background statement as it pertains to my inquiry.
I have degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, and have been working within these disciplines for some time. I have only recently developed an interest in web design and application development.
I started off by learning the individual languages which I had determined necessary. I have an intermediate knowledge of some basic compiled and interpreted languages such as php, xhtml, css, javascript, c#, python and java. I have recently started learning Drupal 7 and by doing so have realized that the wheel has already been invented and all that it requires is some fine tuning, so I have switched from studying the individual languages to mastering Drupal, in an attempt to achieve a more concrete understanding of how the languages interact with each other.
I just became a member of the Northern NJ Drupal Group and I see there is a meeting coming up on 03/09/11. I would like to attend the group meeting I'm just not sure if this is a group/meeting for anyone, experienced developers, professionals, etc. As I mentioned I am just starting off and have limited knowledge of the above referenced subjects. Any feed back would be appreciated,

As Lanny said, you are more than welcome, Matt, to attend the NNJ Drupal meetings.

Please have a look at the agenda, the list of topics, and suggested presentations for March.

You are welcome to suggest your own presentation. We're not looking for perfection, just people who
are willing to do a little research on the topics that interest them.

Also please remember to include your real name in your profile.

Looking forward to meeting you in March.
