Hi guys,

First time posting here, so let me know if this is the wrong place for this discussion. We are looking to get trained in Drupal as soon as possible as we are going to adopt Drupal at the place I work. Can anyone recommend a good training provider for system administrator and developer? From your experience, what's the best way to ramp up on Drupal?

Thank you very much in advance.

Jenny

Ramping up in Drupal

Hi Jenny,

There's no substitute for just diving in and working with Drupal. I didn't "get" Drupal until I had played around with an installation, particularly fiddling around with things like views. I really didn't become good at Drupal until I started diving into the actual code base to see how it worked behind the scenes, and taking apart contributed modules.

That said, the first step is probably to get a beginner's book online, and to look at some of the nice free online video tutorials that are available. After that, you'll probably want to set up a demo site somewhere, where people can play around with features and install modules.

Regards,

Jeremy Lichtman

Learning Drupal

The best book I've found for learning the basics and more is called 'Using Drupal'. Published in 2009 by some of the best Drupal experts: Angela (Angie) Byron, Addison Berry, Nathan Haug, Jeff Eaton, James Walker and Jeff Robbins. You can follow it step-by-step as you build functionality into your project. It uses Drupal 6.

Another great resource is lullabot.com videos for a modest fee and very basic but free are videos by learnbythedrop.com. You can find many of the learnbythedrop.com videos on YouTube.

Another possible option is to contact lullabot.com and pay them to provide you with a training course. If you do this, please invite me to listen in as I'd love to learn more too. With Lullabot, you're learning from the best.
