Changing the design of a template through the CSS - tip

Folks,

You'll forgive me in advance for my obsession with design! And, for those of you already familiar with this little nugget of wisdom, I do not claim to be a wise man - or a nugget.

I am currently working hard to understand how to easily change a design within templates. Eventually to create new templates, or to simply (and drastically) change existing templates. I discovered something that drove me crazy for awhile. Now I am a much happier designer. Again, some of you may already know this...

If you are changing CSS styles, for instance style.css in a template folder, you must "Clear cached data" in Administer/Site configuration/Performance each time your reload an updated CSS rule. Simply refreshing the browser page does not seem to empty the cache of the site. And this makes since because the cache is located at the server level. It's just not as obvious as it probably should be.

If anyone knows a better way - I am all for it! But, this has helped tremendously in quickly changing my designs.

Another note on caching

The devel module makes it very easy to clear the cache at the push of a button. I usually have the development block display in the right sidebar whenever I'm making CSS changes, it saves me when the refresh quits working.

Thanks
