Hi
I'm putting together a Google map which will show all:
- Development companies
- Design companies who use Drupal
- Major Drupal employers
- Meetup locations
This will be a managed list, to account for quality. Each listing should have a link to street view, etc. Ie. it should be all professional so that we can use it for customers and overseas visitors.
List criteria:
- Drupal development houses.
- Design companies who are verified by known Drupal development freelancer/company as providing Drupal sites as part of their overall package.
- Businesses who are actively employing Drupal developers in ongoing projects (ie. more than one person on payroll) Again - need to be verified by someone I trust.
- Known Drupal freelancers, again need to be verifiable and actively working with Drupal.
- Misc locations, like popular meetup places.
Please catch me in #drupal-au if you want on the listing or have any suggestions.
Simon

Yeah, happy to add freelancers. They just need to pinpoint themselves somewhere. I suppose if they don't have an visitable premises they can tell me their location and I'll use a person icon.
Please add me as a freelancer

Hi Sime,
Could you pls add us as well as a Drupal dev employer - we had quite a few freelancers working here and will continue to do so as well as our in-house devs (3 currently).
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=171+George+St,+CITY,...
Pls note that street view says 165 George St, but shows the actual entrance to 171, which is the correct street number.
Thanks for this...
Cheers,
Nic
This is, indeed, a GREAT idea.
This is, indeed, a GREAT idea.
May I request that my company, http://DigitalEskimo.net/ , also be included? We have done some Drupal sites including the well-known http://newmatilda.com/ and occasionally hire Drupal devs on a contractual basis.
Additionally, can you add me, personally, as a freelancer? My information is my signature.
Thanks!

Hi all I've updated these -
Hi all I've updated these - thanks for the info. Please let me know if something could be said better.
Simon, I used the 'virtual company' logo for you. Look ok?
Meitar
thanks for the Digital Eskimo info, I used the Design company logo for Digital Eskimo after checking out the services, please let me know if that's makes sense.
But with your personal info, I looked at your site and your profile on d.o, and so on and it doesn't appear that you work as a Drupal consultant ... can you put me in the picture a little about what you personally do with Drupal outside of DigitalEskimo? Thanks!
Thanks, Simon. Citing
Thanks, Simon.
Citing Digital Eskimo as a "Design" company is fine, and makes sense to me. Digital Eskimo sees itself more as a "digital services" company because we do custom Web application development, we get down and dirty in code-level changes, and so on, but we are probably best known for the great work of our user experience architects and interaction designers. All's well that ends well. :)
As for myself personally, I do primarily front-end development, and this includes Drupal theming, though I also do PHP programming. Yes, I do engage in freelance work even though I'm employed at Digital Eskimo (with the full knowledge of my employer). No, I don't market myself as a Drupal consultant because I've never focused on a single tool. For instance, I also do WordPress theming/plugin development, I've worked with ASP.NET developers, and more still. It's simply that Drupal is one of the tools which I'm capable of using, customizing, and developing with.
I'm not going to pretend to be a Drupal expert, but I can capably offer Drupal-related services. This is why I figured it'd make sense to ask to be listed, but if you have other policies for inclusion that I missed I'd appreciate a pointer to those so I understand the goal of the project better.
Thanks again!

I have a small design firm, with a number of free-lancers working more like a collective that provides services for community groups, artists/individuals, progressive organisations and small business (I also do some print/graphic design to help with the bills). I am currently in Canada (been here a month), so I do not have physical space in Australia right now, though still have the majority of my clients there—with a colleague who currently takes care of any face-to-face necessary.
I would like to be included, if this fits within the scope: http://www.avolvedesigns.net

Hi Meitar, evolve and Peter, I've updated the maps with your entries.
For other-comers, I'm sometimes missing requests here until weeks later, so once again it's best to catch me in IRC in #drupal-au to be sure I don't overlook you.

Hi Val
Great stuff.
The only thing I need to know is whether you consider your working address "visitable". You've provided an address to me, but on your contact page you use a PO box. This is mostly a question of whether you want a Blue house (physical location) or a Red @ House (virtual company), and whether you want me to explicity list your address in the description (or use the PO box).
Cheers
Simon
Hi Simon, My working address
Hi Simon,
My working address is "visitable by appointment", but as it's already hard-coded in Google maps I may as well use it.
I use the po box for all mail correspondence for issues of security and convenience.
I guess it's not possible to list the physical location in Elwood but the po box for correspondence? No big deal - whatever is easiest.
Cheers

I know we're a little late adding ourselves, but can we be included -

Anyone can visit our office, we have 3 coders, 3 web builders and 2 web designers
Thanks to your late post,
Thanks to your late post, I've just seen this...
I'm a freelancer contractor having worked on drupal sites for a few organisations in Melbourne, maybe put me as "Brunswick, Melbourne"
Developer, designer, strategist all that
Me too...
I 've only just twigged to this as well.
We'ld lik eto be included on the map - and I'd like to start actively pushing this map out and about to various stakeholders I'm dealing with - both in capacity of my Wife and I's Lab4 Web Design business, as also in my other life doing corporate IT work.
Lab4 Web Design is based in Lara Vic.
"A small family business providing web sites for other small businesses."
www.lab4.com.au
We do drupal based web site development hosting and maintenance, primarily in regional vic, for business and community groups.
We also do small business consulting, business analysis, and assist with requirements analysis and project management.
We work out of our home - and any face-to-face meetings are held at a meeting room we hire as-needed in Lara, or on customer's premises. So we dont want a specific Physical address listed - but this spot on Google Maps is a good close spot if you need a reference: -38.02283,144.396431
Also - let me if I can assist with maintenance of the map - as this is a really good resource for promoting Drupal, I'm sorry I have not stumbled on it earlier!
Thanks
Thanks sime, this is a great idea.
