Host a doc sprint!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Ariane and I have been getting inquiries lately about whether we can come to various regional events to host a documentation sprint. It's always exciting when people are interested in working on documentation, and we're glad that there is so much interest in sprints -- they are a great way to get some work done and introduce new people to contributing to documentation. But unfortunately, being a Documentation Team co-lead is a completely volunteer position, and neither of us has unlimited travel time or budget (even if the regional camp offers to pay travel expenses). So, we can really only commit to running documentation sprints at the annual North American and (if we have funding to attend) European DrupalCons.

However, we still want to have regional docs sprints taking place. So, I just completed an overhaul of the Documentation sprint planning guide, which will hopefully enable regional event planners to host successful documentation sprints. I've included information that we previously had scattered around on random other pages (and/or in our heads), including how to choose a venue, what to do about publicity, and how to choose tasks for the sprint. If you have comments about how to improve the page, you can add them to the issue where the page overhaul was discussed (be sure to change the issue status if appropriate).

I hope you'll be inspired to host your own sprint sometime in the near future -- it's not too difficult, and can be both rewarding for the participants and very beneficial to the Drupal documentation effort!
