Security Scared

Well since this other comment didn't really make any sense to me. I thought I'd respond with some thoughts on the matter. I'm actually a pretty security conscious person and as a political activist at times I have some serious questions as to whether or not google has ones best intentions at heart. It can be a bad sign when an organizations slogan mentions evil, even if it is allegedly not to be one. For instance if ones car company had the slogan as don't kill people, it might make people concerned. Or it could be just the fact that cars often kill people, just as IT companies have often done what could be tantamount to evil. Information equals power. I'd say that if you don't use facebook then why start giving away your information with google plus ? Well if you already give them easy access to your e-mails it wouldn't take very long for a government agent to read your e-mails and determine the relationships you have. This information is probably in the same category. But at least for now your circles are private between you and people who have access to your profile. One way to get around the whole government paranoia thing is to use an assumed name when using on-line services. Many people do this, and they know who they are legally and other people know who they are enough (a lot of times the first name is the same but the last name has been altered or replaced). This provides at least the illusion of security and something of protection between the easy search engine at say an employer or a google user and the world. But really someone with full access to your information and the desire to find out would probably be able to make a determination. Security is always about increasing the level of protection rather than really assuring it. Drupal sites could provide an alternative to the security conscious person, but if you are going to be blogging already and using a service like gmail then you are already putting your information out there. Why not leverage it. There are definitely concerns pro and against putting ones personal relationships out there, probably the biggest concern is datamining and consumer profiling. Just some thoughts.
