permissions problem with file uploads - need help resolving

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I am running Drupal 6.16 on Window Server 2008 R2 Standard Service Pack 1.

The IIS user was recently modified and we lost the permissions settings for Drupal. So, now my users are unable to upload files or images to go with their content. We get permission denied errors related to moving the file and related to the temp file folder within drupal. We have changed the permissions to give the IIS user write permission on the drupal temp file folder and the php temp file folder. The cache has been flushed. However we are still getting these errors. I am not sure what to do to resolve the problem and get the site back to where my users can upload images and files again.

I would appreciate any help/suggestions/etc in how to troubleshoot and fix this problem. I am new to running Drupal on Windows so my skills in modifying the IIS permissions are not great. I've read lots of forum posts related to the permissions for Apache and Linux but can't find anything on IIS permissions issues. So, that is why I'm coming here for help.

When I upload a file, it goes

When I upload a file, it goes into the temp directory under the images folder but it never gets moved to the images folder so that Drupal can see it was uploaded and the content managers would be able to use the file. When I drop the file into the images folder to go around the upload process, Drupal doesn't see the file. So, I can't get the file to where it is available for use.

This is the error message I get:

The removal of the original file sites/default/images/temp/PendarvisFamilyFeature-uploaded2_0.jpg has failed.

Is it possible there are already files in the destination folder and it's trying to overwrite or delete them but can't because IUSER doesn't have access to these specifically?

chicagomom -- Thanks for the thought but that isn't the problem. I think it is a permissions issue related to moving the file over to the final location. We get a 0 KB file size on file uploads (PDF, etc) and that error message with images.

The folder has the correct write/modify permissions for the IIS user that Drupal is running under.

The solution to my problem

The solution to my problem was changing the permissions on the userfiles folder.

Changing permissions for IUSER for sites/default/files corrected this problem for me.
