Connecticut Weekend Meetup Discussion

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I thought it would be best if we started a new discussion around the idea of starting a weekend meetup 1 day a month.

I know there is a good amount of interest in holding a weekend meetup, so we need to figure out a few things.

  1. Location (Town/City)

    • Should this be around central ct, so that most people are traveling the same distance?
  2. Venue / Facility

    • What type of venue is best?
    • Is WiFi available?
    • How available is parking?
    • Public vs. Private access?
  3. Date / Time

    • Does either Saturday or Sunday work, or do people prefer one over the other?
    • What time during the day?
    • How long should it be? Typical meetup duration now is 2hrs.
    • Upcoming weekends: 10/15-16, 10/22-23, 10/29-30, 11/5-6, 11/12-13, 11/19-20, 11/26-27 (close to holiday), 12/3-4, 12/10-11, 12/17-18
If everything lines up correctly we could possibly hold two of these before the end of the year.
  4. Topics / Format

    • Should the format be exactly the same as a meetup?
    • Should the format be setup like a camp?
    • Can we run it more like a playday similar to the NYC group?
    • Is it training or informational presentations?

Feel free to speak up and voice any solutions to the questions above, and hopefully we can come up with something that works for most people and will help the connecticut drupal community.

It might be a good idea to use a community college for the venue, being that it is open to the public (you don't need to be a student) and likely free. There is a community college in Manchester (http://www.mcc.commnet.edu), though I'm not sure if they would have any spaces available. I can check, if others agree that this would be a good location.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the suggestion, depending on what Mark finds we'll let you know if we should explore further.

Weekend Meetup

I like the idea of Sunday for a weekend meeting (being selfish here, cause I have commitments on Saturday mornings and so need to network and get Drupal help).

Hi. Anneliese Fox of Fox Computer Systems said she could offer space in South Windsor. Is South Windsor convenient? inconvenient?

That would work for me, but I'll let others chime in...

Do they have other equipment like a projector?

What are the weekend Drupal Meetup people thinking? I think this is a great idea and would like to share the direction you would like to go at tonight's non-weekend Meetup?
