2009-01-14 18:30 - 20:30 America/Denver
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Meet and greet starts at 6:30. Presentations and discussion start at 7:00pm.

One highlight this month is a presentation by John Fiala: a sneak preview of some of the things we've been doing in Drupal migration and custom development for SportingNews.com, which has a phase one launch coming any day now.

There also have been some interesting new and notable developments in the contributed modules area, and Drupal 7 core keeps rocking towards what looks to be an incredible release towards the end of this year. Maybe we'll discuss some of those things, if there's interest.

Or maybe you have something you'd like to showcase or discuss? Or questions relating to a project you have? The meetups are for you.

The meet-up will take place at pingVision in downtown Boulder.

Hope to see you there!

School Center?

Hey Matt,
What was the Colorado Springs School Center website that you suggested that I look up? Send me an email if you could.
Also, it was good to talk with you and the other Drupalers last night.

For those of you taking this

For those of you taking this out of context, Mike's school district is using a propitiatory CMS made specifically for school districts called SchoolCenter. When I was in high school (and had been running our school's website for several years) our district stepped in and required us to use SchoolCenter... So, during the latter end of my junior year, and the beginnings of my senior year, Preston So and I converted our award-winning standards compliant, accessible school website to this ridiculously restrictive CMS. Believe me, we fought the district, and we fought hard... but in the end, were forced to make the transition.

So, we made the best of it. There are tons of limitations such as requiring a static width image or flash in the header.. oh and did I mention that there is no way to add CSS to anything?!

Anyways, given those restrictions, we worked extremely hard over the course of about a year to completely transition the site into SchoolCenter and train teachers and faculty how to edit their sections of the site.

After poking around SchoolCenter's website for a bit, I take a lot of pride in that Air Academy's site appears to be one of the best looking SchoolCenter based sites around.

If others are interested in seeing the site, take a look: http://asd20.org/education/school/school.php?sectionid=748

Because of my experiences in working with a high school website for such a long period of time, I am greatly interested in this type of work. Groups such as Drupal in Education and Curriculum and Training are of great significance to me. I look forward to the day when school districts begin requiring drupal to be used throughout their schools' sites and when Drupal (or at least basic web technologies) are taught in classrooms.

I'm hope that my district

I'm hope that my district doesn't see that SchoolCenter site you worked on, they would be impressed and not want to give it up for Drupal. Oh, by the way, my school is the only one in our district using Drupal.
