Meetup using Google+

nflowers1228's picture

Hi everyone, I'd like to try using Google+ to see how this would work to expand our topic/presentation for our New Haven Group. Matt and Josh drive a considerable distance and possibly they could remote in using Google+. I think we would need to have a more formal presentation; so is anyone game with something they could present? Or is there anything someone would like to see presented and we could try to find a presenter? Let me know your thoughts.

Google+ is worth a shot

Hi Nancy et al,

Personally, I prefer informal discussion of interests peppered with short presentations. That said, it is probably ideal to have a balance between formal presentation and informal discussion. Google+ is worth a shot.

For this Wednesday, I can talk about server file system permissions vis-à-vis Drupal. I am no expert, but I can share my experience and hear from others on the subject.

I'd be interested in remoting

I'd be interested in remoting in too. Will this be possible on Wednesday?
Thanks!

I have some time to put

I have some time to put together something more organized. Is there something in particular people want to learn about?

Is it too late to put

Is it too late to put together something on configuring WYSIWYG Editors? Possibly we could record it with CamStudio and share for those who can't make it.

WYSIWYG

pottsy108's picture

Nancy, that would be helpful. I just spent the last two days trying to install the proper stuff to my libraries on a site - but since I am working in GoDaddy, the installation of these items keeps causing major errors.

So, I would like to know what others have done to make this work - cause I am now afraid to try this module again :-(

I'm sorry, I forgot that I

I'm sorry, I forgot that I had another commitment yesterday. Maybe I can present something next time.

I'd love to hear how others

somanyfish's picture

I'd love to hear how others configure WYSWYIG editors. I have a few different approaches I've taken in D6 and D7, but there are a lot of options and it'd would be great to see how others handle this. Same for the file browser and handling media/image uploads.

WYSIWYG

pottsy108's picture

I too would like to know more about WYSIWYG. I am struggling trying to get my first attempt at it working - but am getting messages that I need to download a bunch more library files (which I thought would have loaded when I installed the module). Is this typical of an install to have to happen? Any suggestions?

Are you coming to the meeting?

mikebrooks's picture

@pottsy108 - If you're coming to the meeting on Wednesday, I imagine the group can guide you through the steps.

Wish I could come to the meeting

I wish I could come to the meeting but I teach a class most nights of the week :-(

@pottys108 you will need to

tommyent's picture

@pottys108 you will need to download the libraries independently of the WYSIWYG module, it's is more of an API that allows the editors to work within Drupal.

Are you guys attempting to use Google Hangouts?

I was going to try to connect

nflowers1228's picture

I was going to try to connect as we have at least one member who would like to try to remote in. Would you like to join the fun and help us work through the bugs? That would be great if you could.

Nancy Flowers-Mangs

I think I'll also try and

tars16's picture

I think I'll also try and remote in. Work load has changed a bit and I wouldn't be able to make it down.

PowerPoint 2010 support?

mikebrooks's picture

Hi Nancy,

Since folks are going to remote in, I assume we'll use your laptop for presentations.

Do you have PowerPoint 2010 and PuTTY?

It can be any laptop but the

tommyent's picture

It can be any laptop but the person would need a Google + account or they would need to use someone else's account. So if there were 3 presenters tonight all three could be connected but only the current presenter would show his screen.

It may be easier to get the presenters a Google + account that way they have the software and hardware they are use to.

I'm in. Going to look into

I'm in. Going to look into the new limitations of Google Hangouts and see what the best way to go about this.

Hi tom, I was thinking we'd

Hi tom, I was thinking we'd just all use one computer here and my google+ account. Then anyone else who wanted to remote in. I'm waiting to hear from the other person, as we tried to connect earlier and were having trouble in general. I'll try to connect now.

Yikes, I didn't see all these

Nancy, I am new to Google + and tried to chat with you to see if this worked (you must not be on).

How do I add you as a friend? Thanks.

That worked great!

Agreed - Great Hangout

havensp's picture

Thanks for trying this approach out. I think it worked great!! Would never have been able to participate otherwise with a 1 1/2 hour drive each way from the hills of Northwest CT.

I agree that it worked well.

nflowers1228's picture

I agree that it worked well. Thanks Tom and everyone for help setting it up. Let's see how we can help to grow the group and get additional participation.

I also liked the idea of using the meeting to solve an issue for another member, in the event that there is no presentation. This could be a great way for us to all learn from each other.
