The SANDcamp gathering last weekend was fantastic and all, but it doesn't stop there! Our next local meetup will take place on the second Wednesday of the month, as usual, between 7 and 9pm, Pacific time. We're hoping that Platt College still has the Purple room reserved for us, so until further notice, assume that we'll be in our 'regular' location this month.

Meeting program ideas?

christophweber's picture

Very cool! Thanks for setting this up and for the meeting reminder.

Unless you already have a plan for what we're going to talk about, here are some suggestions:
- Collect user needs and suggestions for planning of further meetings.
- Lightning talks and follow-up discussion.

And dovetailing on the first item above:
- What's new in Drupal 7?
- Automated Drupal administration - Drush and related tools.

My 2 cts.

recap on sandcamp would be

kscheirer's picture

recap on sandcamp would be cool, and a budget on how things went especially.

christoph, to follow up up further meetings, we talked a while back about alternating venues with one up north. this was partly to better serve drupallers who have a long drive to get to platt, but also because platt wouldn't give us the meeting space every month. Joel, have you heard anything else about this?

drush would be a very cool presentation! especially if you can explain to me how to properly set up the new 2.0 alpha :)

I definitely think

I definitely think collecting some thoughts from people on what they want to get out of the meetings would be a good thing. Other than that, I'd like to know more about Drush myself.

Just to clear up possible

Just to clear up possible misconceptions: I don't know Drush, but would love to learn everything there is to know.
Karl, a short presentation on kiva.org would be cool. Microloans are key for a better world!

Thanks for SANDcamp

I learned a lot. I thought it was well-organized and well-supervised. I want to thank all the San Diego people for their contribution to the community, including Brenda, Addison, Christoph, Joel, Beck and all the other great people I met down there.

I wish you were closer so I could attend your monthly meetings. The Drush thing went right over my head. It would be great if someday you could start posting videos of your presentations and LA people reciprocate with the same.

I hope I see some of you at Scale Feb 21-22.

Our room at Platt is unavailable

senpai's picture

I know this is kinda last minute news, but our 'normal' room at Platt is unavailable this month. We've been offered the Teacher's Lounge, which will hold 16 to 20 people, but has no video projector.

What do you guys think? Should we take the room anyway? Everybody please Signup for this event (using the button above) so that we can gauge the attendance.

If we're under 20 people and we can fit into the lounge, I'll offer up a 15 minute session on developing with Drush which will have to take place while huddled around my little Mac lappy.

There is a 20" iMac in the teachers lounge. If you have your demo site online we could use it for a larger display.

Unfortunately a lot of

Unfortunately a lot of people don't actually use the signup. :) But I think the teachers lounge will be fine. I'm actually not going to be making it this week, though. Have fun!

take it

kscheirer's picture

I agree with brenda, the teachers lounge is fine. Much better than having to change the date or venue. If anyone has sandcamp signage left, maybe bring it along and post something at the bottom of the stairs, so anyone who didnt get this message will have an easier time finding us upstairs.

I have several signs left, I

I have several signs left, I will make sure to bring one. :) Good idea Karl.

We're confirmed for Platt College

I cannot make it tonight. So Sorry!

senpai's picture

Gang,

I'm bailing on tonight's meeting. Sorry. I've been without power in my house for the last three days, I'm way behind on my workload due to this landlord's mess, and I'm so stressed out about getting power restored I've got a migrane. We're checking into a hotel tonight to get some internet for the next 8 hours, then some much needed sleep.

I hate it when people skip out on the same day as an event, but that's exactly what I'm about to do to ya'll. I'll hate myself in the morning, ok? :-)

/me bails

Spaces

TechDust's picture

Hi all,

Last night we talked about the ability to re-create a Drupal installation with specific modules installed.

Here are a couple of great blog posts at "developmentSeed" which talk about this subject.

Cool!

Sometimes using pre-existing sites with modules that're already configured is the best way to get where you want to go. Great that you talked about some cool stuff!
