Hi Guys,
I've been talking to team Lullabot about the possibility of running an Asian Drupal Conference here in Australia, and have received some positive feedback from their team. As a developer here in Australia, I have been keen for myself and the rest of my team to attend the famous Lullabot seminars, but due to distance, costs and Visa restriction post 911 have found the prospect of traveling to America not viable.
After listening to the Podcasts from the last Drupal Conference in Brussels, and the hearing about the number of other Drupal developers in Asia the idea of staging an Asia Drupal Con came to mind.
The Asian Drupal Conference would be the ideal opportunity to help encourage the spread of Drupal outside of Europe and America, and talk about the upcoming changes to Drupal especially where internationalization, and localization of sites are concerned. I would imagine the event would focus on much of the improvements, and real life examples of Drupal 5 projects. While also providing Asian Developers the opportunity to attend Lullabot's awesome premium (eg. paid) seminars here in Asia.
There could also be the possibility for Gordon Heydon to run premium seminars on implementing and customizing the excellent E-commerce module. Though he is a very busy man so, I'm not sure it he would be available? What do you think Gordon?
Team Lullabot requires at least 10-15 students to run their seminars here in Australia. So if you are interested please let me know so we can make this happen!
It seems a logical progression to tie any Lullabot visit to Australia with an Asian Drupal Conference, but I need your feedback ideas, and constructive critism to help realise this goal. Everyone in the industry is really busy at the moment so I would imagine the earliest date for such an event would be March 2007.
Any how thanks for reading and please let me know your ideas for Asian Drupal Con and if you are interested in attending Lullabot seminars?
Kind regards,
Chris

I would pay for a Lullabot
I would pay for a Lullabot seminar. 1 down, 14 to go.
Me too
Since I just got back from oscms/lullabot performance and scalability/hackfest, I guess I better put my hand up too :)
On the flip side, it may be more effective "just" to organise a con in this part of the world, and tack a seminar onto that.

I am not sure if I would get
I am not sure if I would get much out of a training course, But the chance to meet the people from Lullabot who I have worked with in the past, I would not pass it up.
As for the question of running training, I would be very happy to do this given enough notice.
One passing thought would be for me and a couple of other people to work with Lullabot to develop an coarse for down under and start holding these on the regular bases.

Asia Drupalcon would be great
would be terrific if you guys secured a venue and some reasonable accomodations for a group of 100-150 for an asia drupalcon. i would be there. if you are serious, subscribe to the conferences mailing list and post your progress there.
Lullabots coming to Brisbane soon
Hi all,
Lullabot stars Ted Serbinski and Angie Byron (m3avrck and webchick on drupal.org), will be in Brisbane during the week of the 11th of December working with ourbrisbane.com.
If you would be interested in meeting Ted and Angie in Brisbane as well as the team from ourbrisbane.com to talk all things Drupal please let me know (matthew.redhead@team.ourbrisbane.com). If there is sufficient interest I will be happy to organise the gathering.
Cheers,
Matthew
Any more for Lullabot seminars and ideas for Asian Drupal Con?
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your comments and feedback. I have recieved another email from the guys at Lullabot and they are planning to have their next round of workshops in Mid March 2007 so perhaps late March or early April could be a good time for the training and event. What do you think?
I have just taken on two new developers who I would like to be trained by Lullabot. I'm also quite keen to have Gordon train them on the excellent E-commerce module, but again I'm not sure if Gordon would be available in late March or April?
So at the moment it looks like we have the following....
Students for Lullabot seminars
4
Students for Gordon's E-commerce seminar
3
Costs for Lullabot seminars I imagine would be similar to the costs in the US probably about between $1200 - $2200 depending on which seminars are run and the duration.
I will email them for further details, in the meantime it would be great if people could provide feedback and ideas for possible topics for the Asian Drupal Con. My ideas are contained in my original post but it would be great to hear what kind of things you would be interested in seeing at such an event?
Would also be great to hear from Gordon regarding the topics, duration and costs for an E-commerce seminar (excluding costs for venue which I may be able to organize).
Thanks for your help. Sorry the slight delay in getting back, seems like every client want's their work done before christmas.
Chris
Be interested in more
Be interested in more details about Lullabot seminars - cost and duration - when they come to hand.
Lullabot training down under
I guess, for me, it comes down to the money. Drupal is not my day-job, so it'd need to be relavent to my side-projects, and price accordingly. Certainly not "premium" anyway :) As discussed in the post above, I'd also be interested if Gordon was to hold something similar.
Count me in
Drupal Con - Lullabot in Australia sounds awsome.....I suppose Perth as a location would be pushing it a bit hey?
Gordon...working with the Lullabot guys to develop training sessions for Australia is a great idea if there is any part I can play I'd love to get involved.

I wonder if any progress has been made on this? March is not far away. (Tomorrow in fact.)
I asked Matt Westgate when he is coming to Australia to train us dingoes and he said:
"I'd love to come Australia. Maybe If there's more interest we'll do it :-)"
So.. the purpose of this comment is to document one such interest.

Sounds brilliant
I would definitely be interested in something like this in Perth, if the costs aren't too prohibitive. A few hundred dollars I could maybe handle, a few thousand is somewhat out of my budget unfortunately. Hopefully there are enough numbers to justify getting something together down here. A roadshow rather than a one-city event would be best if it becomes feasible...
Lullibot down under
You can add my name to list. Sydney is the go for me...or the beautiful Central Coast even more so.
Cost is an issue as Drupal is my passion rather than day job and it would cost thousands to get those guys out here.
