The intention is for this to be a central location for user group organizers to coordinate, exchange ideas, etc. What things are people interested in seeing? Please let us know.

There are a lot of issues, I
There are a lot of issues, I think, that are unique to local group organizers, as opposed to general Drupal event organizers. I sort of feel like we could be on the "front lines" of introducing new Drupal users to the Drupal community by organizing small, local events that are not just advertised and promoted within the Drupal community.
I would like to see a lot of ideas for how best to organize local groups; what type of events to plan (presentations vs. Q&A's vs. "hack" nights, etc.), who to market them to (n00bs vs. established users); everything that has worked, or was a disaster, or might work.
Another great resource from folks who have experience would be tips/tricks on securing venue space, how to find sponsors and who to talk to at a potential sponsoring organization, and advice on pathways for obtaining swag and other incentives for attendees.
Glad to see this group formed...
There were a few BoF sessions that discussed these issues at Drupalcon that were really helpful. I am one of the organizers for our group in Atlanta. I hope to do a blog write-up soon to share what has worked for us.
I'm going to start a group!
I live in Montana and now that I've met one other drupalero in my town (Missoula) I plan to start a local group within a few weeks. I was at Drupalcon but unortunately missed all the BoFs on local groups. Can anyone point me to resources to get started? If none exist, I'll start the group anyway, try stuff, and see what works. I attended meetups, labs, and drink-ups (thanks devseed) for a few years when I lived in DC, so that probably gives me a headstart, but it always helps to have some resources.
Eager to see what develops here and what I can contribute back!
howdy folks
hello all. Glad to see this group starting (again). I say "again" because a similar group was created and then folded into the Drupal Event Organizing group and then split out again and then folded back again and now...here it is again. I think it makes sense to keep separate this time.
But, no need to re-invent all the old content. I've cross-posted a bunch of the old resources into this group. Specifically:
My story is that in Denver 3 years ago I started sending e-mails to random local people to try to find who was using Drupal. A month or two later I called together a meeting (it's easy, send an e-mail to the 20 people identified in the last step with a date, time, location, and planned topics). And now we're 3 years later, we have monthly groups in 3 cities in Colorado's Front Range that are run by an awesome team of volunteers, and over 200 people in the denver/boulder group here on g.d.o. Yay.
I'm currently very interested in working to help support the local user groups, Drupalcamps and Drupalcons in Central and South America.
