While currently the majority of Drupal people speak English as a native or second language, I think it would artificially limit the scope of the LUGO group to require it. I deliberately did not choose a language when I created this group because there was not an 'all' option. The audience and membership of this group is intended to be anyone, anywhere, who organizes a local Drupal User Group currently, or wants to start one. If we are going to encourage that second group to become part of the first, we will need to accommodate people that do not speak English at all.

Therefore, discussions and comments are welcome in any and all languages, with an English translation if possible. Is there a normal way or convention other groups use to handle multi-lingual conversations? There are a number of options that come to mind, but I have no personal experience.

I think the Google translation services will be very helpful. After looking around the site for a bit, I just added a 1-click translation button to my toolbar from the tools page, and I'm looking forward to needing it. And I will talk to people at g.d.o about somehow making that Google Translate gadget an optional block for site wide usage - that seems like an easy tool that would help everyone. Are there other / better automated translation tools out there that people can suggest?

And just for some discussion - what languages do you speak? Despite having studied Latin, Spanish, and German in school, I am definitely uni-lingual in English.
