DSNF - Drupal Social Network Framework - Praposal

Abstract :
I'm going to introduce the new member of the Drupal family, called Drupal Social Network Framework, that will lead Drupal to expand its power in the Social Networking area. This will be the most powerful branch of the Drupal tree in near future. Since DrupalEd (Drupal in Education) become more popular, and the existing modules providing more extensibility to the Drupal in numerous way, this the high time to give birth to Drupal SNF.

Project :
I intend to do this project, cause I'm a big fan of many social networking sites like facebook, hi5 etc. We know the success in the way in e-learning with Drupal, I fortunated to contribute my self to customize video module for the e-learning for the University. DrupalEd, Druapl in Education has started its journey to bright way. Since Drupal already provide numerous ways to opens the doors to the Social Networking by its module, there should be a one leading and success path to start Drupal as DSNF (Drupal Social Networking Framework). That will benefit to Drupal not only in one way but also in numerous way.
According to the current populer social network sites and its functions, most of them already in the Drupal. So we need to list what is in and when is not in Drupal. By identifying missing social networking features also important, in the installations process , as the installations profiles do a vital role in Drupal platform we need to change it to match for DSNF.
And we all know the Ajax based applications are currently most popular and so that the modules that are giving power in Ajax to Drupal also will be most vital. That will make DSNF more user friendly and save loads of bandwidth.
Using different attractive theme will power DSNF too, so it is better to have such nice theme.

Roadmap :
1. Study about the install profiles and other related information of the Drupal installations, identify existing social networking modules.
2. Publish my goal to the Drupal community and get some feedback on module list and the goals.
3. Start implementation new features to the Drupal.
4. Testing

Biography :
I' currently a final year student of University of Moratuwa, which is the top University at the 2008 GSoC proposal approved. I am very passionate about web technologies PHP and MySQL, Perl etc. I introduced Drupal to the University and the mainly by doing web site development to the University.

I have been doing various Drupal stuff before, (Profile : http://drupal.org/user/199102). I think I have quite understanding how Drupal works, I'm active on support/development forum and IRC (IRC:heshan).
