Does anyone have any recommendations for a Xen based VPS host in NZ?
I've had shared hosting with Openhost for a number of years but want to look at VPS now. Openhost use Virtuozzo for their VPS offering which I understand is problematic for Drupal (http://omega8.cc/the-biggest-misunderstanding-ever-122).
If anyone is using Virtuozzo I'd be interested to hear about your experiences.
Alternatively are people using VPS from overseas?

Virtuozzo (OpenVZ) for Drupal...
Hello,
Our NZ-based hosting infrastructure, specially designed for high performance and high reliability Drupal hosting, is running a number of OpenVZ VMs running on Debian (OpenVZ is the open source version of Virtuozzo), and we chose that solution for various performance reasons of Xen a few year ago. We have Drupal sites which require 300 requests/sec and we're able to meet that with our OpenVZ architecture, whereas our previous Xen architecture (admittedly Xen has probably come a long way since we were using it) suffered major IO bottlenecks. I'd say the reported inefficiency of OpenVZ is based on configuration details rather than an inherent issue. I suspect both Xen and OpenVZ, if set up well, can be very good solutions.
That's encouraging ...
Thanks dlane - that's encouraging news about OpenVZ.
I'm specifically looking at Aegir/Barracuda and there just seems to be a lot of noise about Virtuozzo version 4, memory leaks and performance consistency (http://drupal.org/node/1392020 and http://2bits.com/articles/hosting-virtualization-openvz-vs-xen-which-is-...).
Omega8.cc go to great lengths to say "avoid Virtuozzo" http://drupal.org/node/1392020#comment-5424900, which seems a shame given your experiences. Clearly OpenVZ is working for you and as you say this could just come down to appropriate configuration.
If you still really need a Xen based VPS...
I haven't used them, but Sitehost has a good reputation:

Also Rimuhosting have offered Xen VPS hosted in NZ for a while now, so there's another option with a good reputation.

Rimu
I use Rimu and they are outstanding in every way!
Thanks
Thanks all - I appreciate the comments and recommendations.
I'm still setting up my local dev environment (Mac Mini 8Gb RAM, Debian 6.0 Squeeze, Nginx, Aegir) and once I'm comfortable with that will look for a production VPS. Some late nights ahead I reckon!
Honestly mate
Look hard at Rimu, they are sensational!
