The Central NJ meetup was last night. I think things went reasonably well. Regarding the issue of topics and format, please provide your thoughts. Some people seem to prefer presentations, others don't. There were suggestions of multiple short presentations per meeting, or multiple topics per meeting. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions about what to do, and how to do it, so please provide them. Things won't improve if there isn't feedback. Critiques for the last two meetings are also welcome.
It might also be helpful if people identify the areas of interest they have, and what level of expertise they have. I also don't want to give the impression that I'm in charge :-) This is a group project, so the group should feel free to take things in what ever direction is preferred.
As for me, I am interested in all topics. I am a web developer by trade, so I'm comfortable with php, css, html, etc. My work lives almost exclusively in a LAMP environment. I am fairly well versed in the main Drupal topics (themeing, installation, modules, etc.) for D5 and D6. I've gotten very good at multi-site setups, and have learned a few good tricks for handling files. The modules I'm most familiar with are Views, CCK, FCKEditor, IMCE, WebFM, Calendar, Image, Nice Menus, Pathauto, Ubercart, Web Form, LDAP, and Related Content. And I've recently spent a lot of time working with the contrib Rules module in D6. I've built sites for static content, multimedia, event scheduling and registration, and e-commerce. I'm interested in learning more about patching, testing patches, performance testing, version control, and security.
Your turn...

Thanks for the meeting
Hi David,
I thought the meeting went very well, even though the agenda seemed informal (which I liked). I enjoyed your presentation on how you approached organizing and maintaining your sites with a combination of symlinks and mod-rewrite, it gave me some insights and ideas on how I might go about doing it. It was good to see WebFM in action and discuss using file managers in general.
Here are some things that interest me for future meetings:
1) I would be interested in similar, "case study" presentations on how people are using Drupal to solve challenges of particular sites.
2) A core patch day, like they did in Philly recently. I'm also interested in the whole idea of patching, version control, etc., so perhaps this would be a good means of exploring these topics.
Thanks,
Dana
Any volunteers to present
Any volunteers to present site recipes, or present on a specific topic?
Alex UA suggested that
Alex UA suggested that Zivtech might be able to organize a core patch day - let me try to see if I can get a commitment for next month.
Yes!
I've been meaning to ping you for the last few days to get the ball rolling on this- we're definitely down to bring the whole Zivtech crew up to Central Jersey for a day of core patching! Next steps as I see it are:
Anyway- count us in. I'm looking forward to it- this should be a lot of fun!

First two weeks of June
Can we pick a date sometime during the first two weeks of June, other than June 10th, which we cannot do?
As soon as we have a date and a location we can begin to invite other developers from the Mid Atlantic...

Is a patch day a bit beyond
Is a patch day a bit beyond the bounds of a local meeting? I'm wondering if we may be neglecting the less code-friendly people. Should we maybe have a meeting concentrating more on themeing or site-building?
Also, I doubt we could host a big patch event at IAS, but what kind of resources are needed to host such a day?
The only resources we'd need
The only resources we'd need would be a room for a day.
Such an event should be accessible to people with pretty
Minimal level of coding experience. But certainly not everyone will be interested.
If Alex can still do this, I be enthused to go ahead. Otherwise,
Maybe we can do a meetup the 9th or 16th.
Peter
We're definitely still interested...
Our schedule has filled in quite a bit, but we'd still love to see this happen. Either the 8th or the 9th would be great, otherwise it would have to wait until the following week (maybe the 17th, so some of us could head up to the NYC Drupal meetup afterwords?).
Can we finalize a date by Monday or Tuesday?

The 9th and 16th are both
The 9th and 16th are both Tuesdays, so I assume we'd do this in the evening. I don't see how we could do this before the NYC meetup, since that starts at 6:30 pm.
If a couple people from Zivtech can come the 9th, maybe we shoudl just go ahead for that day. What did you do for your evening patch event in Philly? I assume such a program would have a short(ish) (maybe 20 min) presentation on how to get, install, and test a patch. Possibly that would be repeated a second time in the evning for late-comers. We could then break into a few groups based for more hands-on?
