20 Ames St., Cambridge, MA white-tiled building - Sprint is in Conference Room 135: Go to lower level of Media Lab, look for double glass doors "001"; go through doors, up metal staircase; 135 is at the top on right.

We will meet on the lower level of Media Lab near the piano at 9:30am. If you have any questions, please call Todd Nienkerk at 512-517-5165.

In order to attend, we will train you how to set-up your infrastructure.drupal.org account, and get your own hosted copy of drupal.org so you can see how your theme improvement looks. We will also train you how to work in the redesign theme(BlueCheese) issue queue.

If you are interested in helping, please sign-up and we will schedule your training.

Hi Kieran,

Is the sprint just all day Friday or does it go through the weekend as well?

Cheers,
Alex

It's great to hear about the

It's great to hear about the redesign sprint! This dovetails nicely with the Drupal Design Camp, which is on the following Saturday and Sunday at the Stata Center (a 5 minute walk from the Media Lab).

The sprint is Friday, the Design Camp is Sat & Sun

hours of the sprint

cpelham's picture

What are the exact hours of the sprint? Do we have to be there the whole time to participate? What time would we have to arrive by? Trying to figure out if I could come up from NYC Friday morning or would need to come Thursday night...

Be prepared in advance, hours are flexible

The key to participating in the sprint is undergoing training in advance. We need to get you set-up with an infrastructure account, teach you how to work in the issue queues, set-up a test site with Drupal.org database copy. If you don't have that done in advance of the sprint then showing up on time or later in the day won't be productive.

If you have the tools and know how to contribute in advance, then showing up later in the day won't be a problem.

When we've had multi-day sprints in the past, we frequently spent the entire day just identifying problems and filing issues. Since we are only sprinting for one day, we can't take the whole day training people, and just filing issues.

I'll be contacting everyone to get them trained in advance.

Interested in Attending

lucaswoj@drupal.org's picture

I'm only a high school student, but I'm really interested in getting more involved with Drupal. I've been working with drupal for only a few months now, but I'm a quick learner and would love the opportunity to learn and work alongside some drupal experts. I very comfortable with PHP, mySQL, (x)HTML, and CSS and am quickly getting the hang of drupal. Would it be ok if I came (assuming I can get the day off school)?

Training is key

Hi Lucas, the key is to be ready to contribute that day. See my comments above so you know what you have to learn and be prepared to do in advance.

Re: Training is Key

lucaswoj@drupal.org's picture

I have enough experience with drupal to contribute to the project; however I do need some help getting started with infrastructure. I requested an account under the same username (lucaswoj) on infrastructure.drupal.org which has not yet been activated. Also, are there any docs about developing for the drupal redesign?

getting envolved isn't that simple...

drupaltronic's picture

I won’t be able to attend the sprint-meeting, but I would like to get envolved very actively in the redesign of drupal.org. Is there another way to contribute to theming drupal.org and implementing the redesign with remote participation?

(On the documentation page : http://groups.drupal.org/node/14792/documentation
I’ve noticed that the the http://staging.dosprint.org/ is not active any more. )

I'm the same. I'll love to

I'm the same.

I'll love to be in Boston at MIT Media Lab to help out but i can't afford to travel there. So is there any other way I can help on the redesign development?

Thanks,

Where to get started

Amazon's picture

Review the redesign theme(BlueCheese) issue queue.
Review the plan from the last sprint: http://groups.drupal.org/node/20738

That's a good starting point. If you think you can contribute to one of the issues, then we can get you set-up.

Preparation

bdimaggio's picture

Hi Kieran --
I've reviewed the issue queue and definitely see a lot of places I can help. Got an infrastructure.drupal.org account from the d.o sprint in DC in March. I haven't heard from anyone although I signed up for this sprint some time ago. Here are the things I'll need to be prepared:
- the d.o database
- cvs account so as to check in/out bluecheese

Anything more I can do at this point to be ready to pitch in immediately tomorrow?
Thanks,
Ben

set-up

drupaltronic's picture

Will you set up everyone who signed up ? I really want to help in the redesign of drupal.org !

Amazon's picture

Unfortunately, this design sprint is a single day. For people who have not had the time to review the existing designs, http://infrastructure.drupal.org/drupal.org-style-guide/prototype.html, and have not reviewed the Blue Cheese issue queue, http://drupal.org/project/issues/search?issue_tags=Bluecheese%20theme there won't be time on Friday to bring people up to speed on the basics.

If the sprint was 3 days long, we could afford the time to train everyone on how to contribute. But if people show up unprepared, then we are going to end up spending the entire day training everyone how to come up to speed, and not actually get any of the work done. I am getting requests to be set-up in advance, but not a lot of confirmations that people have done the necessary preparation.
