Anyone know any good Drupal 7 books for beginners?

Using Drupal (Oreilly)

I have not read this book, but it comes highly recommended by others.

This book looks awesome and seems perfect for the beginners. Take a look at the description and the reviews. Seems like the book has a practical approach and uses a lot of case studies which is the best way to learn in my opinion.

Take care Ron, hope to make another meeting soon. :-)

The Drupal 7 Bible

Published by Wiley, ISBN 978-0-470-53030-6
It is approximately 50 dollars and a lot of reading, but it did help me a lot.

Good luck

Drupal User's Guide

As someone who reviews most Drupal books and interviews many of the authors, in my opinion, Emma Jane Hogbin's Drupal User's Guide is the currently the best beginner book for learning Drupal 7. (Shameless self-promotion - here's a link to our podcast interview with her.)

That being said, Dustin's recommendation of "Using Drupal" is a good one, although it is more recipe-centric than lesson-centric (like Emma Jane's).

Rob's suggestion of Drupal 7 Bible is okay, but it's a bit less approachable than other beginner books (again, in my opinion).

Another book you may want to consider are Tom Gellar's Drupal 7 Visual Quickstart Guide - it's a bit more concise than the other options, but definitely a solid introduction.

Drupal 7 Book

I was trying to find more material on learning and understanding Drupal 7. I will be using it to teach Drupal 7 with, I hope, a more easier way to learn Drupal if a person is new to using Drupal.

I am also looking for some more Development Books but that will be after I go through the beginning books. I just can't do it all at once, even though I wish I could. I want to try to make it easier to learn Drupal 7 and move on to Drupal 8 when it comes out.

Thank you for asking.

I could see using the two

I could see using the two @ultimike recommended for teaching absolute beginners, Gellar and Hogbin's.

Drupal 8 is a long way away and I'm sure after the release there will be new books out.

Have you looked at builadamodule.com? There are a lot of self-paced beginner tutorials there as well that embrace the mentored training concept.

Three Good Books

I do not have a team, and I hate wasting time fumbling through something I know nothing about, so I look for my team members in their books.

So far my Drupal team members are Jacob Redding, Emma Jane Hogbin and Angela Byron and associates.

Emma Jane Hogbin's "Drupal User's Guide: Building and Administering a Successful Drupal-Powered Web Site" is well written. It assumes you want to build a Web site without having to learn any code. It has a good planning section which I believe is very important if you are going to produce a Drupal site, as it identifies the modules you will actually need before you begin. It has good step by step chapters teach you the essentials and beyond. It's a very enjoyable read.

"Using Drupal" by Byron, Berry et. al. does a nice job too. It uses "Recipes" to create sample sites using the cook book metaphor. It provides a very structured approach to each project. There is a good chance you can find a match for the project you have in mind.

I started with those two, then went to Jacob Redding's "Beginning Drupal". This book gave me exactly what I was looking for. It had the nuts and bolts of Drupal that showed me what was mine and what was Drupal's and showed me what was behind the Drupal curtain. (I like the curtain... just like to know what's behind it.). This is a cover to cover read for me and I just might do it twice to make sure I didn't overlook anything.

You might enjoy an hour or two in Barnes and Noble perusing each of these to select which would best suit your requirements.

Good luck and Go Drupal!
