Drupal Meetup in Islamabad or Karachi in the end of August?

Anyone interested in getting together for a Drupal meetup in the end of August? I am going to be in Pakistan (mostly Islamabad) for about 10 days for work, and will be presenting on Drupal, specifically mapping tools like http://drupal.org/project/nicemap and http://drupal.org/project/openlayers and translation servers like https://translate.openatrium.com/ for tools like www.OpenAtrium.com. If there is anyone that would like to get together and talk code post here or email me at eric@developmentseed.org.

If there are a lot of people in Karachi I might be able to make that work also. Hope to meet up with some of you soon!

Yes, I would love to have a meetup as suggested. I would also like to attend the presentations those you are going to make here in Islamabad. Can I attend those presentations? I can suggest a meetup in a Best Western Islamabad. I can spread this word to my colleagues and friends as well as soon as a meetup is finalized. Thanks.

This is Imran and I am a PM at a software solutions company here in Islamabad.

I would second the idea to have a meetup in Islamabad. There are some issues that need to be ironed out if something of the sort is to happen.

  1. Who is going to arrange for the place for the presentation?
  2. When can we finalize the date and the place for the meetup latest?
  3. Who is going to take care of the expenses? If the expenses are distributed among the members, there still needs to be somebody incharge of the finances to book everything in advance. The other less expensive way would be to arrange the meeting at someone's office.
  4. How long would be the meetup? How much time should we dedicate to it? This will also reflect on the timing in case we have to book a conference room in advance.
  5. How many guys would be the threshold to be able to say that we are going to have a meetup? 5? 10?

These are just some of the questions that I came up with. If you have any more concerns, please share them here so that they can be resolved.

@Eric: You can resolve points 4 and 5 above as it is going to be your call as to what should be the total time of the presentation and how many guys should be there at a minimum. If you have anything to say about the first three points, your input would be most welcome. We would be hoping to get a response soon.

Meetup

Actually we have a one meeting day for free against a membership with a Hotel. So that must not be a problem. The thing is Eric has not replied yet. Also the meetup is not a formal meeting with some predefined agenda, this term falls under a non formal meeting to share ideas etc.

Eric can explain further as to what he means by the meetup and also he has pointed that he will be doing some presentations which I think he will be doing separate from this meetup, but Eric can tell whats his plan more correctly.

So far we have four votes for Islamabad and one vote for Karachi (blue.moon)

@khanshakeeb: where are you based and what venue would you go for?

@figover: Eric is definitely a well know speaker. In the most recent Lullabot podcast Eric was the guest speaker from Development Seed. Now we have to see if Eric comes back with some more information.

Khurram bhai is right we should decide with care the timings because of Ramzan.

would prefer it to be in Karachi but if majority is willing for Islamabad then its also good to go.

Please let us know about the final venue and date

Meetup Date/Venue/Strength

We should here finalize the things for the meetup if we want to have one.

The things to finalize are

  1. The date
  2. The venue
  3. The strength of participants

The date:

20th is a day before Ramdan so I suggest a meetup on this day. If Eric's flight is on 18th he should be here on 19th most probably.

On the other hand if it goes into Ramdan then to me there is no problem in having a meetup at the start of the day around 10 in the morning that goes on till 2 in the day.

We must communicate Eric a date on which there can be the most participants so my suggested days and times are as under

Thursday 20th August - 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Saturday 22nd August - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Sunday 23rd August - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Please give your suggestions so that a date is finalized and communicated

The venue:

A venue should be such that a presentation could be possible there and multimedia presentations facilities are available

For this I suggest
Crown Plaza - Blue Area - Islamabad

The strength:
I think we should share our contact details and they should be communicated to the one who will arrange for the venue.
