Which distribution?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello everybody,
on behalf of openpublish I'm an newbie and I'd ask for some advice. Should I start with the Drupal 6 or Drupal 7 distribution? As far as I can see no topic hub is available for the Drupal 7 distribution of Openpublish?

Drupal 7 of OpenPublish

hodota's picture

Hello

I used OpenPublish of Drupal 6 version and now move to Drupal 7 version. I think that we are not easy to do data migration from Drupal 6 to 7 of openpublish that many modules, design template and so on. I recommend, please use Drupal 7 version that we have many technical points, for example, Drupal 8 will be release next year, HTML5 version design template will be support Drupal 8, Drupal 6 support will be stop next year or near future.....

However, Drupal 7 version of openpublish is beta version that not include good design template looks like Drupal 6 version.

If you would like to publish web site soon, you use Drupal 6 version and if you would like to support mobile customers, it use Drupal 7 version. I think that we have many points, however this is only my idea. Thanks.

Cheers,

Kazu Hodota

Hello Kazu,
many thanks for your very useful information, hope that I'll find or get some more information about the OpenPublish roadmap.

agree with #wof, Open Publish

agree with #wof, Open Publish 6 was well set up but has some issues. I used it for a while until I became aware of OP3 and have worked with it for four months, first the Omega distrib and now have the distribution, but it's functions are not as well designed as OP6 2.4.

Really depends on what you want to do, I'd recommend OP6 if you don't want to do too much in dev.

My site is running on OP3 but have not had the success with it that I had hoped. I've reconfigured extensively.

Your website is really convincing and impressing. I suppose you are using Gazette as template. At present I'm fighting with some inconsistencies of OP3 - hoping to get somewhere anyhow...

D7, Open Publish 7, 8?

alphaa10's picture

Question 1
As a new arrival on this section of the Drupal site, it is slightly confusing to read of users moving between OP3 and OP6 in context with D7. Is the OP distribution number semi-independent of the Drupal version?

Question 2
After reading Kazu's comments, in which he recommends D7 and mentions D6 is on the way out, we are left with what Kazu terms a "(D7) beta version that not include good design template looks like Drupal 6 version." How long must we wait for OP8-- even the beta?

Question 3
Steve, I am impressed with what you have done with Image News. But did you outsource building the site, or did you build and configure it, yourself?

From all appearances, you have had ample prior experience tinkering with such applications.

thanks alphaa10, the work

thanks alphaa10, the work took a while but yes, completed the construction myself. The more Phase2 develop the distribution the better it gets. Strongly recommend it but beware, documentation is difficult to follow but that too is getting better.
