Topics/Presentations

We'd like to see everyone come prepared to either pose a question/issue they've ran across in the past month, or something cool/amazing they've discovered in the past month. There are plenty of questions out there, so let's make sure we know what they are so we can get them all answered at this month's meetup!!

Additionally, please use the comments on this event node to suggest topics. If there is a consensus, we will try to have someone prepared to do an informal presentation.

Presentation

As mentioned here http://groups.drupal.org/node/254133#comment-817673 we would be interested in presenting on one of our recent projects, I am pasting from that other thread:

"CRS (Council of Residential Specialists, http://crs.com) -- it's in the rotation on the front page of drupal.org as one of the featured Sites Made With Drupal. The case study is on the Case Studies page in the Featured Showcase (http://drupal.org/case-studies), or directly at: http://drupal.org/node/1734842 if anyone wants more information.

This was a project we think really shows off the strengths and power of Drupal 7 and involved features such as API integration, Drupal Commerce for membership and file access, Apache Solr and geolocation/geospatial search, online education, etc. We could present on some of these aspects and demo the site (which is live), and answer any questions. We also hope it will give others some ideas too!"

This could be one of the topics, we don't need to take up the entire meeting and I'm sure others will have things they want to bring up too -- anyway we will plan on being ready to talk about this project unless we hear otherwise -- thanks :)

PS the rotations I mentioned on d.o, it may not be there anymore, it was when the above was written :)

Definitely

Mike, we can definitely fill some time for you (or you guys) to do a demo and tell us about the project!

New Guy

Hi all. Noob here evaluating Drupal for a couple upcoming eCommerce projects. Coming from the Django world; which rocks, but lacks a savory eCommerce solution.

During my brief evaluation, I've found Drupal and its community to be quite vibrant and lovely; maybe even enough so to make it my go-to platform.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all and soaking up some info.

Thanks,
Richard

Commerce Kickstart

Have you checked out the Commerce Kickstart distribution at http://drupal.org/project/commerce_kickstart? It's built on Omega and provides a great starting point for an e-commerce site

Thanks, ripinnh. Commerce

Thanks, ripinnh. Commerce Kickstart is what initially drew me toward Drupal. I have the current v2 release candidate running locally on Acquia Dev Desktop. Very cool. I've just started messing around with it in the last couple days -- which is when I realized I really have a lot to learn about Drupal :)

I've checked out Omega, as well, and it looks very well thought out. Looking forward to getting into the nuts and bolts.

eCommerce

Perignon's picture

I just launched an eCommerce website that uses Omega and Commerce. http://www.swingsurgeon.com

I started 11 months ago on the project and actually built a lot of the features you seen in Kickstart2 from scratch. It's extremely flexible which is awesome. But with the flexibility comes complexity and also a new way of thinking with eCommerce platforms.

Will have to be remote tonight

Last minute change but I will have to participate remotely tonight. Are we going to be doing a screenshare?

I did not bring the microphone or webcam tonight, so it'll be quiet... I'll leave my mic on, to let you guys have some audio if possible.
