I've created a Yahoo Pipes feed which takes the site-wide iCal feed and filters out all events which aren't in the America/Toronto time zone. This way it's easy to see only the local events in your calendar. Right now there's only one event... but hopefully that will change soon :)
iCal feed and Pipes link.
Enjoy!

Can't you just subscribe to
Can't you just subscribe to the custom ical feed on the Toronto group page. There should be an upcoming event block on the side (at least once someone has created one) with an ical icon.
You can see it on the Phoenix Metro group:
http://groups.drupal.org/phoenix-metro
Toronto's isn't available right now since that block isn't visible until an event is created. Come to think of it though, that's a little bit of an oversight, but since the feed for Phoenix is at http://groups.drupal.org/ical/2281, and 2281 is their group ID, then I'm guessing you could "reverse engineer" for any other group. (http://groups.drupal.org/ical/13 in Toronto's case)
Cheers sir :)
Ah, just reread and realized
Ah, just reread and realized that your need is likely a bit more complicated. Sorry -- Hopefully I didn't come across as patronizing :)
