I'm sure this has been brought up and discussed before, but is there any ability to restrict the posting of particular content types to certain groups?
Specifically, I've just had a job posting to the DrupalCon Asia Pacific Organising group which was quite inappropriate. I moved it to the appropriate regional group already, but this seems like a more general problem that would be beneficial to resolve.

Does this exist in OG already or would it need to be written? Bit OT, sorry, but if this already exists, I'd love it on my site. :)

This is why Spaces exists
This is why Spaces exists (among other reasons). I moved my OG site over to use spaces/features/purl for this very reason (blog post coming soon). There's other hackish ways of doing it, but spaces does this very nicely and very cleanly. Open Atrium is the best example of this sort of thing at the moment.
