Revised Schedule for DrupalCon city announcement

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The Scandinavian team introduced a new element, and we realized that the IRC meetings are actually very valuable.
We would like to have all three teams up for a meeting (the London team is following tonight), to complement our scoring.
The Germans are missing, as of now; when could you do an IRC meeting?

Because of these IRC meetings, we have been pushing our internal meeting date as well, so everyone has a chance, of communicating with us, before we make our recommendation to the DA.

In parallel, the event organising company Blueprojects, are evaluating the venues for the respective cities, as agreed upon. They will come with their results to us by latest October 15th.

Now, we said, that the DA would announce the cities to be on October 15th, but clearly there is a scheduling conflict, as the DA needs to get our and Blueproject's results.

So here is the revised plan for the coming days and weeks:

  • get German group IRC Q&A in the next 3 days.
  • Next week, selection task force meeting
  • Blueprojects communicates their results to us by Oct 15th
  • Communciate the recommendation to the DA on 16th October.
  • The DA will (ideally) have a result by October 24th. (The DA has to respect legal procedures.)

argh even more waiting time

mortendk's picture

Yup the danes are not so patient - we wanna go go go go (!) (go)
The longer we wait the shorter it is to the conference...

Could we please not end up with a Q&A from berlin like the one London have set up on a friday night ? - Frankly it limits a lot of people to participate :/

its like moving x-mas ;)

waiting has an end

fl3a's picture

A little bit hidden but as announced on the berlin proposal at 09.10.2009, the berlin irc q&a takes place at 13.10.2009 20:00 CET same channel, same network.

I will also promote it at the groups page too.

October 24th is late

The Drupal Association wants to make a decision by the end of this month. In order to meet our statutory lead time for Board meetings, October 22nd would be the last day to submit. Please schedule your meetings accordingly.

So we can expect an answer

mortendk's picture

So we can expect an answer for 2010 & 2011 october 23 ?

or does this mean more waiting time and the official announcement will be the 30 october

It would be best to wait for

It would be best to wait for the DA Board vote.

Obviously, the EU group's decision will not be a secret.

Update?

jeff veit's picture

Isabel, have you got any update on when the decision is likely to go public? How the task force is getting on? Or perhaps on the scoring that the task force gave each submission? Blueproject's findings? When the DA is likely to vote?

I expect not only I, but everyone else who was involved with a bid, has been obsessively checking these pages, the DA site and drupal.org for news.

Thanks.

Hi, Blueprojects is still in

isabell's picture

Hi,

Blueprojects is still in the midst of researching venues and diving deeper into it to get a full overview.

Be patient please, it shall be soon.. :-)

yes, since we needed more

kvantomme's picture

yes, since we needed more information to complete the scorecards we asked them to do more in depth research. That is why this is taking longer than foreseen.

Help?

jeff veit's picture

Perhaps there's help that we can give: I can't speak for the other teams, but I know that we did more research about possible venues than we included in the submission. Of course even if you have a few top possibilities, it's not sensible to choose without an on-the-ground visit. I'm not sure if Blueproject are doing that, but maybe it would be worth having other people visit each possible conference venue and report back: on paper a conference centre can sound perfect, but in practice it can be less perfect. You never know what they leave out of their description without a visit. You/we/Blueproject could devise a questionnaire.

Even if there's nothing we can add, thanks for the update.

Thanks for the patience =)

Thank you for your patience. Yes, on-the-ground visits are important, and Blue Project is indeed conducting some. We'd be happy to receive any additional venue information that you have to share, I suggest posting it as an addendum to the proposal.
