Background info:

The Western New York State Drupal User Group knows about your dreary spring. . . .

How about a change of scenery?

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 27, 2013 . . . our first MINI-CAMP.

Picture it being a little warmer, still pre-DrupalCon, and a prime time to get some Drupal people together in a casual setting. We received a great off-season rate on a conference facility, just built and complete with A/V and Wi-Fi.

Here is the plan:

    • One day only
    • Late morning start (to accommodate travelers—free parking!)
    • On-premises breakfast snack, lunch, and beverages
    • Sessions and BOFs, like any other camp. Post at http://groups.drupal.org/node/288213
    • Wrap up by dinnertime

On our own for post-event gatherings in Downtown Ellicottville—restaurants and bars make it easy to split off and continue conversations through the evening.

Outside the regional scope of our G.d.o group, this event will mix in attendees from neighboring Drupal groups around the Great Lakes circuit. Cleveland is exactly three hours away; Toronto, just under three; Rochester, two.

Contact the Inn at Holiday Valley (800-323-0020) for a WNYDUG conference group rate of US$98 for single/double occupancy. Included in this rate is a continental breakfast, use of the hot tub, indoor/outdoor heated pool and fitness room.

Questions? Pose them in the comments.

Once more: Full details, suggested donation and advance registration is open now at http://wnydugminicamp2013.eventbrite.com

Thanks in advance go out to our volunteers, Holiday Valley Resort and all participants from G.d.o!

It is Drupal 6 too but as you can see it needs some TLC!

It is a damn poor day when you don't learn something.

Alright, I'm in! You can sign

Alright, I'm in!

You can sign me up for a session too. Not quite sure what I'll talk about. Perhaps something about how to ensure that your sites are maintainable.

Driving from Niagara/Hamilton?

SoniaWilk's picture

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but wondering if anyone wants to car pool on Saturday. I can drive, or someone else, I don't mind. Just keep in mind I don't have a Nexis pass so I'd have to go across by regular means. Feel free to contact off list: http://drupal.org/user/234624.

Bump...

SoniaWilk's picture

Reminder of my offer for carpooling. I could take up to 4 people in my car, or would be happy to sqeeze into someone's trunk. What ever works! :)

Just found this

Going to try to drive up from Ithaca. If anyone is interested in carpooling let me know.

Got myself all booked, but I

Got myself all booked, but I did miss getting to jpw1116 about the boxed lunch this afternoon.

Don't worry, I think we have a handle on it. . . .

jpw1116's picture

We are ordering for everyone who has registered or otherwise confirmed they will attend. I had people message me to get an idea of the ratio between the three lunch choices, and it's become pretty clear.

If anyone has any further questions, please post them.

Thank to everyone for the great response—it should be a great mini-camp.

48 hours to go until the mini-camp. . . .

jpw1116's picture

We have a full slate of presentations and geographically diverse attendees signed up.

Remember, doors open at 10:30 Saturday for an a.m. snack and coffee. Plenary at 11 a.m.

Thanks to Jeremy Knab, here is your bird's eye view of the destination: http://binged.it/147wJrO

Don't forget to bring your business cards to exchange.

Box lunches and beverages have been ordered for all who signed up on EventBrite. If you have not, message us ASAP.

Great work John

Thank you John for keeping us all updated and informed.

Carpooling from Toronto?

UTAN_dev's picture

Are there any Torontonians with an available spot in their vehicle? FYI, I don't have a Nexus pass.

Thanks,

Michael-C.

Thank You!

Hopefully this the best thread to put this - I just wanted say a BIG thank you to John and the other organizers for putting on this event. The people, the topics, the location were all great and I feel energized to do lots of Drupally things now.

Much appreciated.

Inaugural mini-camp is a wrap! . . .

jpw1116's picture

A big round of applause to everyone who participated, volunteered, or traveled in with attendees (yes, several family members made the best of the sunny day in Ellicottville while twenty-six of us filled the classroom in the new lodge at Holiday Valley).

Slidedecks are being posted here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/288213

Please post your ideas for future events/mini-camps here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/296158

ahem...working link for notifications? ;)

While here, huge THANKS to all those who put this event together! It was an awesome day of learning and meeting great people. Well worth the drive (and organizing babysitters, ha!). Looking forward to future discussions/events. I have one topic for discussion in mind already, so let me know where I should start it, please, so I can pick who's ever brain is up for it.

Not everything could be perfect! . . .

Thanks for spotting the problem. It's not the link as much as MailChimp—maybe we overloaded their server? ;-) We will have to shock that monkey.

Meantime, post ideas here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/296158

And, as a bonus, here is the PechaKucha "Twenty Slides, Twenty Seconds Each" site that Jeremy Knab informed us about . . . which could be good for us to shape into a Drupal module to help explain major (or esoteric) concepts: http://www.pechakucha.org/
