Full Details

What
What is a Drupal Day? In contrast to the normal presentations/conferences, this event will be a hands-on, practical workshop. No watching a lecture, its pure participation. Learning through doing!

The aim is to accelerate attendees' usage of Drupal and for each person to have achieved something tangible by the end of the day.

The workshop will have a focus on beginners and intermediate experience with Drupal. There will also be a facilitated code & documentation sprint for developers who wants to cut their teeth with the issue queue. Bring your laptop!

How Much $$?
We are expecting $5 to secure your spot, but would encourage people to donate $20 to help cover costs. We will be providing catering and drupal schwag for all presenters/facilitators.

You can secure your spot either by purchasing a ticket:
Only local images are allowed.

Or save the transaction fee if you have a PayPal account by directly sending the money to paypal-au AT ryancross DOT com (corrected)

When
We will have a full day of fun on Saturday, October 31st, 2009. We will open up for registration/greetings at 9:00am and actually get things kicked off at 9:30 and likely finish around 6pm. For those keen, afterwards we will move to a nearby pub for dinner/drinks and to continue the socializing.

Where
We have secured rooms at the University of Sydney.

Faculty of Pharmacy
Pharmacy Building (A15)
University of Sydney
Sydney, NSW, 2006
listed at location E15 in the map of the Camperdown Campus
and a google map of the area and the building

If there are any special needs, please contact me ASAP. There is handicap access to the building, and potentially hearing impaired services available, but I will need to confirm anything.

We will have signs to help direct people, but don't feel bad if you get lost and need to call. (Contact details will be emailed to attendees before the event)

Inside Plans

I am no expert, but I could talk about an introduction to Panels 3 and using role based variations.

Any more details?

G'day all!

I'm new to Drupal but intermediate user of CMS's (prev PHPWS; TikiWiki; SPIP; some Typo3). I'm a non-coder - but happy to cautiously hack to resolve problems. I've come-in from the cold mainly because of size of Drupal's development community and a specific need for CiviCRM - I work part-time for a small national membership-based not-for-profit in Sydney focussed on human rights (indigenous reconciliation; eco-justice; fair trade etc.)

I'm a Brisbane-ite so keen to book flight times if there is confirmation that this Sydney day is going ahead - currently 12 sign-ups - and also more details of logistics: where it will be held? bring laptops? catering options? Apologies if past precedent makes this common knowledge.

Re content for the day as a newcomer I'm fairly open. As stated above an initial focus point for me will be CiviCRM - so anything on that would be good (currently stuck struggling to resolve what my smtp options are - UAS charges more than our current LAMP hosts - just for smtp!! and I want to manage subscriptions myself).

Okay back to drafting that media-release on asylum seeker policy & Indonesia - pro bono Drupal-geeks most welcome to join the tech-end of the struggle!

I am organising the catering

gollyg's picture

I am organising the catering for lunch - could you please contact me via my contact form if you have any special dietary requirements?

How to contact you?

Sean_Cleary's picture

Re: your "contact form" - can't see a link to one on your GDO profile and when I try "groups.drupal.org/user/1984/contact/" I get access denied"???

Also, how do we find out where Saturday is being held? Is it at the ABC at Ultimo? Anyone???

Location?

Sure Ryan will let us know soon...

It wont be at the ABC -it

It wont be at the ABC -it will be at Sydney University (very close to the footbridge) at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Really nice facility along with WIFI etc. Due to the low numbers I am not organising catering - we will just order pizza delivery or you can BYO.

I know Ryan has been flat-out, so I am sure he will update soon.

I'll be there around 2pm

behindthepage's picture

I plan to come but won't be there until about 2pm so won't need any food.
I can help with discussions or talks on basic to intermediate stuff off the top of my head. I will just fit in with whatever is happening when I arrive. Will there be internet "G" WiFi avaiable?

This looks like it is shaping up to be yet another great Drupal event. I wish I could make it to network with you all.

If someone could please drop a plug or two for DrupalSouth Wellington January 23-23 2010 (just after LCA), that would be great! We're still seeking sponsorship too.

Thanks!

Hello all

Here's a map showing where the Faculty of Pharmacy is.

Parking is available all day Saturdays on Parramatta Road, and inside the University for a daily fee of $24!

See you tomorrow

Jim

Thanks, Jim. Can you confirm

rcross's picture

Thanks, Jim.

Can you confirm that Saturday rate inside the University? From memory we discovered it was free parking on the weekends.

Not free

woulfe's picture

It's not free - I guess those who didn't pay last time were just lucky.

However, I was wrong about the $24. It's $6 on weekends:
