"drush up" on OG security update killed my site

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Doesn't this upgrade check to make sure the required modules are present before doing the installation?

At any rate, I have a mess - and it appears my backup of the database was to a full disk, so didn't take.

Anyone have any idea how to put the pieces back together again? I've discovered that removing the modules/og directory doesn't help.

Note: I don't care about the OG content - there wasn't much of it anyhow. I'd be happy with removing the OG module and content all together, but there appears to be too many things that interact with it.

PS: This is on an internal site. If anyone wants to look at it, I can set up a virtual connection to the web server.

Start with "drush dis og" and

Start with "drush dis og" and see what modules it wants to disable.

BTW what version did you update? Did you report the problem at http://drupal.org/project/issues/og ?

Thanks! But...

No, I haven't reported it yet. But will as soon as I can verify a few things. One of which is that its not "just me".

The version was og-7.x-1.5

BTW: this is what 'drush dis og' produced:

jbd@msf-server:/var/www/drupal/sites/default$ sudo drush dis og
[sudo] password for jbd:
WD ctools: Invalid plugin module/type combination requested: module [error]
og_migrate and type og_migrate

og is a required module and can't be disabled. Reason: Field type(s) [ok]
in use - see Field list
The following extensions will be disabled: og_access, og_context, og_ui, og_field_access, og_migrate, og_register
Do you really want to continue? (y/n): y

Am I to take it that you're

Am I to take it that you're upgrading from OG 7.x-1.5 to 7.x-2.something? Unfortunately that involves a lot of changes, I've requested (https://drupal.org/node/2081105) that the project page be updated accordingly - they have a whole page explaining the steps in upgrading (https://drupal.org/node/1839652) but nothing's mentioned on the project page.

Did you try downloading the missing modules?

Also, you shouldn't have to run "sudo" to run Drush command.

I know, but...

BruceDawson's picture

Actually, the goal was to install a security fix for OG. Unfortunately, drush decided to upgrade from 7.x-1.5 to 7.x.2.*, without telling me that other modules were required - it just gave the error and the site was thereafter broken. I think this is the problem I need to report.

Downloading the missing modules doesn't appear to fix the problem - partially because the site isn't running.

I haven't figured out why I do have to 'sudo drush' yet. It appears related to this system. At least it appears to work. Maybe because it came from the Ubuntu repository?

Bug submitted...

Evidently, others are having the same problem.

Why sudo drush?

richard damon's picture

One possible reason he needs to sudo drush is that PHP/CLI runs as a different user than his web version of PHP (MOD-PHP or PHP/CGI), and doesn't have the needed permissions to access/alter the files.

This would make sense

BruceDawson's picture

I'm running drush as me (user 'jbd'), yet the web site is in '/var/www' and (was) owned by www-data. (I say "was" because its all gone now and I'm prepping to install the latest version of D7.)
