Now that phpBB3 has been released, can we figure out who's interested in Drupal/phpBB integration and where things are at with arkepp's phpBB module. What still needs work? Who's willing to do it?

The first thing I noticed is

The first thing I noticed is that phpBB has a completely revamped group system and it introduces a bunch of users to handle search engine crawlers.

The group code will have to be rewritten. Fine. The added default-users are problematic because it breaks the direct mapping between user ids in Drupal and phpBB. One could do the matching on username, but I think it's generally a bad idea. So far I am most inclined to delete the crawlers and recreate them using ids that are free in Drupal, but it creates a bit of a mess (50 inactive users in Drupal) and I don't like it one bit.

Anyway, that's a beginning.

*I* would be greatly interested...

...in anything that can give better forums to Drupal !

arkepp, you said in the description of your phpbb module (back from 2005 !) that "it does not integrate phpBB into a Drupal-page", but on your demo pages it seems that the forum is indeed integrated in your Drupal pages !? Even on your Drupal 5.1 demo, your phpbb forums are encapsulated in Drupal ? (while there is no theming, there are Drupal headers and footers...

Hi,

look all the way at the bottom on http://kepp.net/drupal/

On our sites ( Mac1.no, Linux1.no ) we have achieved it fairly easily by cut'n'pasting from Drupal (source view in browser), only required minor tweaks to the CSS.

Thanks

It's a very detailed installation process you have here, I will give it a try... but there are 37 points to follow before the "important tips", not an easy task !
Also, is the procedure exactly the same for Drupal 5.1 ? And is it possible to get some results with phpbb3 following these steps (even if there is more tweaking after) or is it a no go ?

Well, the 37 steps also

Well, the 37 steps also cover installation of Drupal and phpBB from scratch, I may have to double check the Drupal installation steps for 5.1. It was never meant for beginners, and probably never will be.

phpBB 3 is a no go, the database is completely different. Contrary to the title of this topic, it has not been released yet.

Any updates ...

Well, the phpBB team released phpBB3 RC8 over the weekend. Has there been any updates since March for supporting phpBB3?
